Gosh, It's not my thread but I'm having so much fun here, and the more the merrier, I'd say, TheRookie!!

My mystery chicks hatched today!!! So I am posting a couple of photos to see if anyone can identify these. They came from a bantum show.

One of my mystery chickens hatched over night and the other two have pips! I wasn't expecting anything until Sunday! Here it is so...................What do I have with this 4 toed cutie???

(Sorry so blurry I was in a hurry.)

So itty bitty my Silkies are quadruple this size. Maybe a Serema?

Feathered foot D'Uccle?

All yellow long pink legs

Left egg really small the the feathered chick is the smallest chick. The other two were from the larger tan egg.

Thanks for any guess you have!

Well, poo. I just talked to the person I was going to get eggs from and they said they didn't have any. They said they would call back next week and let me know. I did get the new incubator fired up and was so excited to be getting some in there. I am not holding my breath that they will have many if they didn't have any now. I do still have a mixture of eggs that will hatch around the same time as everyone else. So have gone from 30 dozen to 16 eggs

. I did put an add up on CL to see if I can find any more pure breed chicken eggs. We shall see what happens.

I WANT TO SAY THAT OUT OF 6 FREE SHOW EGGS ~ 3 WERE INFERTILE AND 3 WERE FERTILE AND ALL 3 HATCHED UNDER A BROODY HEN. I ALSO HAD 10 EGGS FROM CATDANCE SILKIES AND 2 WERE INFERTILE, 1 WAS A QUITTER, AND 1 EGG FELL OUT OF NEST AND BROKE WITH A LIVING CHICK INSIDE. SO I HAD 6/10 THAT ALL HATCHED UNDER A BROODY HEN. I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT GOD ALWAYS KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING

Ok, so I have this experiment going that I am surprised to say is working. I wanted to find a way to watch the embryo develop without candling, so I let 2 eggs sit for a week (just 2 from my barn) in order to let their air sac's grow. I then removed the top half of the shells by breaking into the air sacs and taking away as much shell as posible without damaging the clear inner membrane. Next I painted the clear membrane with clear nail polish and put them into the incubator. One never developed but the other is on day 7 and is very strong! I haven't been taking pictures like I was going to, but once these silver laced eggs hatch, I'll try this to 2 dozen eggs and actually take records and daily pictures. I not sure that it will hatch, but I'm super excited being able to watch it and I pray it does hatch though it may need assitence. Sorry about the long post, but I don't think any one has every done this before with nail polish, so I'm super happy!

Oh, and I need a name for the little embryo to help cheer him on! What do you guys think?

I'm also going to try to add another coat of nail polish, the air sac appears to being growing even though it's covered in hard nail polish so I'm worried it will strech too much for the nail polish to handle.
