World Egg Day Hatchalong!(October 12, 2012 is World Egg Day!)

sounds like u will have some fun building for a few days, lol good luck ,i've rebuilt my "chook shed " 3 times -now i think i need to build a new one altogether

Few days?!?!?!?!?! I've already been at it for WEEKS! LOL But I did get hubby to take down a horrible tree (I took the slightly smaller one down) and space that got full of shrub is getting cleaned out and voila, suddenly more usable room! Wadayaknow? All well worth it and when I'm finished, the bird's otta love it!

Funny, your coop is getting bigger, whilst mine got smaller. LOL

It is now a 8'x8' when before it was 8'x18'. Hence why I now will be raising bantams instead of my dominiques.

I also have 2 pairs of seramas reserved that I'll be picking up! They are gorgeous and completely adorable!

You must take many pictures and post on the Serama thread!!!! I'll be watching :D LOL, today, my young leghorns were wandering in the back yard, so I got the camera intent on taking adorable pictures, and they were all awful!!! backs turned, walking behind an object before I could snap! Now I understand, it's darn hard to take pictures of these birds! Yikes!

I started with 5 for World egg day but I had 1 that was infertile but the other 4 are doing good I have had a couple of days that the temp dropped in the morning to 97% but I think they are fine have had to turn the heater in the house on at night so it will cut on if the temp drops a few degrees in the house the bator drops too I tried the thermostat on one of the bators but can not get it to stay in the right range and because of this I have a egg that has intenally pipped but can't lockdown because all my eggs are in the lockdown bator How do you get the thermostat not to fluctuate in temp so much I think we did better without the thermostat will probably take it out so I can lockdown my other one It was supose to be 4 eggs in lockdown but 1 died early and the other 2 I took out yesterday they died at some point

My tempature is also going wacky with the sudden cold. It was 80 degrees on Wednesday, 40 on Thursday. I came home and the chicks in the brooder were all chirping and hundling under the lamp, it was only 85 degrees in the hottest area. And the incubator was at 97 degrees all day, it shouldn't harm them, but it's driving me nuts.

Day 14, I'm gonna candle tonight

Sorry guys I have been out of circuit for a bit my hubby has been in and it of hospital with his heart problems.

On the eng side of business, I set 54 quail eggs and five chick eggs. Four chicks hatched one quite early on, on the quail eggs 38 made it to lock down so far I have one quitter one shrink wrapped and died (had to move chicks out while it was pipping) I am hoping that the rest are going to make it I had to open the bator again last night and this morning to remove chicks (hubbie had to go back in this morning for a Cath futures it's better to save the ones that were alive for sure then the ones I wasn't sure on, and yes they had already been in there for a day and a half :-( ).
Doc just came by while i was typing this update It's good I pulled them cause it looks like they are keeping my hubby a couple days they said he needed four stents, guess I'll see what all I have when I get home :) fingers crossed for healthy hubby and fluffy fuzz balls

Oh goodness, Chucklecluck! I'm so sorry! It's a scary time, been there! Keep your faith high and be with him. I hope you can find someone to help with the chicks so you can be with your husband. Doctors are very good with this now a days and I'm sure he will be back home soon, and will recover very well.
