I kinda agree that maybe no idea?? I have a ton of birds and thought I had checked them good too but one day I was out playing with my birds and I noticed a coronation getting sick looking. I looked him over for 2 weeks on and off to see if I could see anything and I looked thru his feathers and never one time did I see anything. He looked so sick. I picked him up one day and felt a scab and flipped him and about died when I saw all the mites. I about puked! I had gone over him at least 10 times in 2 weeks and never saw this and now they were everywhere. I am a good caretaker of my birds and love them a ton but I just did not see this. I felt so bad. Well I ended up dipping 100 plus birds and fogging and cleaning. It took a few months but they were all ok at the end. Sometimes we just dont see whats going on even if we are the best caregivers. I would contact the person and ask how they want to resolve it. Things do happen. Good luck with what ever you decide.

Well, I would mention it to the seller, but keep in mind it could have been a lot worse. Fortunately, mites/lice are pretty easy to get rid of. If I were you, I would be thankful the bird arrived alive and without showing signs of disease.

I personally always debug, worm and bathe every bird that gets shipped out. Even though I might not see bugs but I would rather be safe than sorry and debug them as a precaution anyway.

I do understand that you don't always see bugs on every bird but it's better to treat them ESPECIALLY if your shipping them to new homes. Otherwise it is not going to give you a good name and people will start talking if they get a bird in poor condition.

I also understand that this is a bird and birds do get lice, bugs, worms etc but the amount of bugs this bird had was ridiculous. She must of had them all winter for them to multiply like that. I'm a very understanding person but this I just can't justify.

I did send a email to this breeder on how disappointed I am. I don't really expect a refund of any sort. I just want him to be aware and take care of his own actions.

Yes, I agree. The bird could of arrived dead but still. Everyone works different but the bird should of been checked over prior to shipping. I guess some people are picky and some are not and I'm one of those picky people and do care on the health of my birds.

It just ticks me off that I spent that much money on a bird and have it arrive with that many bugs.

This is a Lavender Silkie pullet. If you want a good quality bird from a reputable breeder that is well known for their nice Lavenders/Silkies then you will pay higher in price. Lavenders in Silkies are not cheap and especially if they are show quality.

I got you. Rare and quality creates higher price. Seems reasonable.

Good luck with your bird.

I would definitely complain. I don't understand why you would hesitate to mention who it is on this web site. I recently ordered birds from someone who sells regularly on this web site. It wasn't as bad as what happened to you, but it was serious enough that I thought it was important for people on here to know who it was and what my particular experience had been with them. I had gotten no response from them whatsoever until I mentioned it on this web site. After posting, I got an email from them and a discussion was finally had between the two of us. They did MORE than what I expected to rectify the situation and since then I have heard nothing but glowing reports about them.

I think that posting on here might be a wake-up call for them. I know if I got a bird that looked like yours, had paid that kind of money for it, and then found out that someone had the same experience and didn't say anything, I would be discouraged. I understand not wanting to cause some problems, but it might be the 'nudge' they need to clean up their act, or might possibly keep someone else from having the same bad experience.

I'd be pretty p'd if I got a bird infested like that.

I don't purchase live birds anymore, just hatching eggs.

Did you treat her with anything? Maybe treat her with some pour on ivermectin. Looks like a big infestation. Poor bird.

I treat my birds about a week before I ship, just incase. I do take preventative steps. I use both Permethrin 10% spray, which lasts about 30 days and just started Ivermectin. I will be rotating the 2 of them.
