Wyoming Unite!!!!

Rhode Island Reds & some Bantams, not sure exactly what I got it was an
assorted mix from the breeders. I'm hoping I got a couple silkies but its looking like I only got 1. The bantams had a really rough go, they got stuck in a post office for an extra day so they were so cold. I got 6 bantams lost 3 the first day & went and got 3 new ones and I'm trying to stress them out. I had to cases of sticky butt & took care of it & now all 5 are doing awesome. I can't believe how big my Rhode Island Reds are already.

I've had RIR's in the past and really liked them. They were good layers and had a lot of personality.

I hope they all continue to do well for you!

Thanks, so far so good they are all healthy and ornery. I talk to them all the time & they look at me.

That's interesting about the white spots on their heads. I've noticed in the Australorp mixes that have hatched this year that a white spot on the head means male. The two males that hatched 6 weeks ago both had white spots. In this new hatch only one out of 3 have a white spot. So I'll see if it holds true.

I've also noticed over the years that a light colored or buff chick will be female if it has a black spot on it's head. I don't see that on your Sapphires so it may not hold true for Leghorn crosses. I do see some black spots on one's back tho... :idunno

The Sapphire I got from @R2elk last year didn't have a black spot on her head but she is definitely a female. So maybe it doesn't apply to Leghorn crosses, it would be interesting to know.

That's a beautiful rooster! Must be one of R2elk's Welsummers. I've been trying to keep one for years but it never seems to work out in my favor. Now that he doesn't have Welsummers I don't know if I'll ever get one. :(

p.s. I do notice some black marks on the Sapphire's back tho.:hmm
