Yes - Mystery TSC Ducklings! Breed Guesses?

Just a quick update on the original group - 3 weeks old and gigantic! Will be so glad for warmer weather so they can go outside.

I know...I hope it's mostly people that already raise poultry/waterfowl who can't pass up that kind of bargain and not primarily the impulse-buying unprepared (who need to come to BYC and learn how to care for those babies properly). I'd heard of Cornish X going for $1 each before, but not layers. An employee said they had another large shipment coming soon and had to make room. :hmm I may find myself back there again tomorrow for other shopping, but...

I am so glad I don't live close to any feed stores that sell poultry. I'd probably be in jail for disorderly conduct. Making these that work there take care of those little ones. I had a bad experience at a feed store once where they had chicks right across from the counter where the owner was standing and poor things had no water because it was full of shavings. feed was full too. I just stood there and took as much of the shaving out I could so those poor little things could have a drink the whole time that man stared me down. Never said a word thank goodness. Such a shame to see things like this.

It's a shame that people who are that lazy or ignorant (or maybe both) sell animals. We have both TSC and Rural King in my area, and the level of care for the young poultry and waterfowl is worlds apart...and I frankly didn't care for the attitude I got when I brought the fact that their chicks had no water to the Rural King employee's attention.

It doesn't help that the employees usually seem to know very little at all the animals, too.

It's just money an really not that much but I guess it adds up since it seems chick days start so much earlier now. Someone has to be making money or they wouldn't do it.

Too bad the care TSC has on line doesn't go over to their employees. Maybe we should complain send them emails on the places that don't meet up with good care standards and give kudos to those that do? Might make a difference.
