YO GEORGIANS! :)

Oh I'm upset!!

Yesterday afternoon, I noticed 2 of my game hens were missing. Now this morning my rooster, Pittsburgh is also missing. When I woke up this morning I shot straight out of bed as I realized I heard no crowing!!
I don't know if something killed them, or if the neighbor's dogs chased them so deep into the woods that they can't find their way back... The dogs were in my yard yesterday, but I didn't hear any commotion or barking. I chased the dogs away, because they are pitt mixes. Sweet dogs, but I have seen them eat other animals, like squirrels, and they torment my cats.
I'm trying to hold out hope, but I fear the worst!!

I've only got 1 game hen left, and she's all over the yard making all kinds of noise, like she's crying & trying to find the others. She's obviously panicked, and now I'm wondering how long it'll be before I lose her too!

Now I'm scared to let any of my domestic chickens out of the pen, unless I'm there to supervise. I knew I'd eventually lose a few chickens, but I didn't expect it to be like this!! I've only had them a week!

I'm so mad & sad all at the same time!

They were sweet birds, good layers, and I loved hearing Pittsburgh crowing every morning.

I lost 2 birds in the coop a couple of weeks back. The attack looked like the work of a weasel, although I have never seen a weasel in this part of Georgia. I put doors on the coop the next day and lock them up every night. I haven't had any problems since then, but that doesn't make me feel any better for the 2 I lost.

Joseph I am sorry you are struggling through this. What I am reading reminds me so much of Andrew and all that he went through in Cobb County. Hoping and praying things will work out for you.

I'm sorry to hear about yours too! My game birds were free range, they weren't penned up. The people I bought them from also let them free range, so I was hoping they'd be alright here. Obviously not... The chickens in the pen are ok, thank goodness. But I hate it that I have to be on my guard to let them free range. :( Losing chickens to wild animals is bad enough, but losing them to your neighbor's dog is an entirely different matter.

I'll be keeping the pellet gun handy from now on. When those dogs come back, which I know they will (I still have 1 game hen running loose), they'll get a sting in the backside they won't forget too easily...
