I still don't know what a Black fly is.
Are those at the coast in upper MA ? I may remember those when I was a kid but have not seen them since and never saw them on the Cape.
I think those were sand flies.

In TN there were a lot of regular fly looking bugs that bit. I hated the little black fly buggers in NS, there were so many of them! Time to go back in the house!

WAY worse.

They are small enough that some get through screens.

They breed in running water.

They come up in swarms.

They like the cool damp weather that makes up most of our spring and summer.

They go for the face.

Their bites hurt wicked bad, swell up, and ooze.

Need I go on?
