You might be a “Southie” if...

Interesting... What other food would you say they taste most like, or do they not taste like anything else? I'm deciding whether or not it's something I should try.
Let's take a poll... Who says yes to trying okra and who says no :D

This should be interesting:lau
Only okra I had was in gumbo and I didn't like it. Liked gumbo without it

They are unique, at least to me. I would try them, but go easy on yourself the first time & maybe try the ones that are prechopped & battered in the frozen vegi section. Fry them. If you like them, then go crazy & buy them fresh.

Okra is related to hibiscus, and the flowers are similar. But the big leaves are 5 lobed, looking more like cannabis...I used to be afraid people would think that's what we were growing, but now both are legal here.

I too noticed the hibiscus look. Interesting. Can you get different colors or are they all the same?

I have never seen an okra plant before... Now that I have seen one, I would describe it as a cactus flower stuck onto some weird mutant greenbean-jalapeno mix. Is that what they taste like? Seriously though, I've never tried okra and now I am curious...

Remember, curiosity killed the cat..

Take my word for it and experiment with arsenic laced apple pie, it’s safer for you and tastes better.

Hopefully, they will outlaw okra soon and make your home safe again.

I say you should try everything at least once! (*Almost everything* *disclaimer included for the sake of the uptight ones here. Don't try drugs kids :old not even once!)

Okra may just be one of those things you just aren't going to like unless you were born and raised on it like most of us Southies have been.
But you'll never know if you don't try it. 🙃

There are many things we can judge as being dangerous and not safe to do by looking at those that go before us.
Like free diving off a 3,000 ft cliff into the ocean..or tasting okra.

Btw I disliked okra going down and really disliked it coming back up..

Oh, I'm glad you like it, because a lot of us have been saving our arsenic for your consumption. :tongue:lau

Southern born and bred! True Southern girl right here. I have adapted 'coke' to accommodate all of the northern transplants. I now call it soda or pop when in public. I don't drink it though. Sweet iced tea for me. LOL
In California, "Coke" takes on a whole new meaning! I drink Dr Pepper anyways. :lau
