You might be a “Southie” if...

Or chili made with beer...northerners are weird :lau
I’m not quite sure about that particular recipe, but I think almost anything made with beer has to be good! I have a recipe for Irish Guinness stew. It’s awesome on a cold day...unfortunately it’s never cold here, so I just have to eat the hot stew on a hot day.

Chili is not a contentious issue up north. The biggest food controversy up here is whether you eat your pasty with ketchup or gravy. Both sides are adament that the other is wrong. (I am considered extremely odd since I don't like either on a pasty.)

Another huge area of disagreement is what vegetables should be added - the acceptable ones being potatoes, onions, carrots, and/or rutabaga. (Around here it's not really a pasty unless it includes Rutabaga).

Then there's the question of how the beef is prepared - ground, chopped, or thin sliced.

And people are very scornful about the rash of new gourmet pasties, including chicken, vegetarian, and other ill-advised recipes of Southern influence.

What’s a pasty? 🤔

What's a runza?
I forgot that non-Nebraskans don't eat them! We have a fast food chain called Runza that sells...drumroll please... runzas, SUPER creative right? "The Runza® Sandwich features fresh-baked bread stuffed with ground beef, onions, our secret blend of spices, and yes, cabbage." -Runza
Anyways, is this what a pasty is like?
