Young quail has been scalped and eye is badly damaged. Wound smells bad.

I would wrap him in a dish towel to keep him from flapping.

The quail hated the iodine as soon as I started to put it one he started flapping and squirming.

Probably just the sensation of the liquid... Can you wrap in a towel. Put his whole body besides his head in the towel... you don't want to cause more injury with him flapping all around and going crazy. He isn't going to like the wound being cleaned. Cool liquid on your head would make you wonder what's going on... I would gather the towel in my left hand and clean with the right. You want to have control of the bird.

I managed to dab iodine on most of the wound. He HATED it. I wrapped him in a towel but the he escaped and ran away I picked him up and put him in his space. He seemed really tired. What should I do.

and its a lot better it will make it dark so the others wont attack they are attracted to blood most wounds like this will heal most of the ducks i get look somewhat like this

He probably is just worn out. as long as all the exposed wound got some on it it is ok. I would go ahead with the ointment.

Hes in the house so there aren't many flies. He is seperated so the others can't peck him more and I plan to keep him separate until he heals. Thank you for your advice, I'm glad most wounds like this heal.
