Young quail has been scalped and eye is badly damaged. Wound smells bad.

He is resting under his light right now. I just noticed that he has not made a single noise all day. He flapped and squirmed but he didn't chirp. Is he stunned or is shock? Is something else wrong with him? I don't usually handle him much cause he doesn't like it but he usually makes noise of some sort. He sometimes crows too.
Do you have a vid?

I managed to dab iodine on most of the wound. He HATED it. I wrapped him in a towel but the he escaped and ran away I picked him up and put him in his space. He seemed really tired. What should I do.
Let him rest then put the ointment on. The iodine will protect it for now until you get the ointment on. You can try to put the ointment on him now, if you're up to it...

i had a duck with a much worst wound and missing eye that healed fine. Just keep an eye on him yes I would keep him away from the others. It will take around 4 mo.
Hoping he recovers as well as your duck! I'm prepared for it to take 4mo. for him to heal completely.
Make sure he is not too cold birds can easily go in to shock if hurt. Do you have a heating pad?
He has a heat lamp that he goes under when he wants.

Video? No I don't. I might be able to get one though.

Yes
Iodine does not sting... Peroxide is the one that would sting. Iodine just feels like a liquid, I have used it on many open wounds on my dogs and none have had a reaction to it. when it dries it does feel kind of tight, but I'm not sure if a bird would even realize that part, I just realize it because I'm human.
have you used iodine in an open wound on yourself though? Hurts like crazy! Far far worse than peroxide does. Many animals don’t react to pain but that doesn’t mean they don’t feel it. Iodine is a super good disinfectant though so if that’s all you have it’s certainly better than nothing.

ok he might just be a little stunned birds most birds like my rescue ducks will be silent like if they were in the wild (evan tho they are 4000 years apart from wild ducks they still have that instinct) it would be good to be not criping when hurt because if animals that prey on them would hear them. I hope he recovers soon.

Good update:
I took him out and dipped his beak again and he seemed to like realize it was good for him, or he liked it i don't know and he drank and drank for like two or three minutes strait with out me having to help him. (well I held the bowl so he could reach it better but other than that) I think he's recovering. I have not seen him eat yet but he drank a LOT of electrolytes, like he drank more liquid than I have ever seen a quail drink at one time. So fingers crossed that he will make it!
