Your 2024 Garden

We went about 3 weeks with no rain.
Now it seems we are getting downpours every day. I had to move some potted plants into the greenhouse so they could dry out a bit.
So far no damage in the garden. I'm still picking between showers.
I rehomed some tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and eggs to a few family members. They are older and not able to garden anymore. Makes me happy to share with them.

Not much chance of getting rained out today. Tomato plants are in prime condition to go into the ground today. If I hold up those pink eye purple hulls should be planted also. Looks like we will have fresh okra by the weekend.

Not much rain but having to wait out the thundering skies for a bit. It's moving over us rather fast so I should be back outside in a few more minutes. I did order some KY Wonder seed to plant with the pole Lima beans. I also ordered some Scarlet Emperor Runner Beans to try. Both are heirlooms so if they do well here I'll save a lot of seed.

I need to clean the old litter out of my hoop coop as it's starting to smell due to constant rain. I'll give you one guess where it's going...
I have 2 14x16.5 ft hoop coops that need to be cleaned back down to the dirt. One day this coming winter it will all get piled up in compost pile. There are a lot of shavings in it and they need to break down before I spread it over a garden spot. I've put granular garden lime over it a couple of times so no odor yet. If there was no one could smell it as it is a long way from the house or neighbors house.

I did that this morning. The "hot" stinky wet litter went into a raised bed that I am still working on. I had two loads!

The dryer, fine litter that had been kicked outside the coop went into the other bed (below, on right). Since it's not "hot" I'll top it off with compost and soil and plant in a few weeks.
