Your 2024 Garden

I had a problem with bunnies too so I got this and put up a short 3-strand electric fence. It was super easy to do and not very expensive, and there is a solar powered option if you don't want the bother of occasionally recharging the battery. Has worked the last 2 years and kept the raccoons out of our corn too! I've been thinking of putting up a second one around the chicken coops because we have some irresponsible neighbors that keep losing track of their dogs.

Picked another zucchini last night, and a third today. None were big, all were delicious.

And picked another lemon squash, AND OUR FIRST TOMATO! (plum)

I always pick them once I see color, as insects will damage the fruits before they turn red. It will ripen nicely on our kitchen table.

Beans are winding down. I'll plant a second crop when we get back from vacation, no sense in planting until I can water and care for them.

I picked a gallon of jalapeno peppers and two nice poblano peppers today. After that I picked a few tomatoes while ma carried the basket. She picked the last of the pole green beans. Hopefully the Roma II beans that are covered in bloom pollinate in this heat. It they do we will have a bushel to can early next week if not before. Looks like Zipper cream peas will need to be put in the freezer about the same time the Roma II beans will need canning.

Yesterday I picked a gallon bucket packed with green beans. I'll have to pick again in 2 days. Lots of small beans and flowers. I think I found were the bunnies were getting in.

I also picked a dish pan full of yellow squash and zucchini and another with cucumbers. Lots of bees on these plants.

I picked a couple more tomatoes. I have a tray of these now. Need to pull out the canning stuff.

My purple hull peas are starting to bloom and I saw a few tiny pods.

I pulled out some soaker hoses to help me water. We really need rain. So hot and dry.

I'll water the downhill garden today, and the Seven Sons bushes and trees I bought for the honeybees. Well, for the future honeybees. The bees we have now won't benefit.

Yesterday, I set a trap I *hope* will catch the :duc:mad: squirrel that has eaten ALL the cherries in one of the cherry trees. It's a little red squirrel, so I hope the trap is big enough.

I picked the reddest cherry I could find on the other tree... not quite ripe yet. Yes, they're sour cherries, but it was still a bit too sour.
