Your 2024 Garden

So, this is growing outside my garden, vining in. I had watermelon in the garden last year but this section is new and not anywhere close to where they were growing last year. And we only buy seedless so I'm stumped

What should have been a drizzle is a hard pouring down rain with heavy thunder too. Good napping weather.

And heat recovery weather. When I get overheated I head inside, put an ice pack on the back of my neck, and drink tepid water. I also sit where I have a small fan blow on me. You're smart to listen to your body.

I had a cantaloupe almost ready to pick. Something beat me to it last night...I found a hollowed-out shell today.


There was a little flesh remaining so I gave it to the flock. Yum yum.

I've not seen any here, but there are raccoons.

Must be wild birds, my chicken yard doesn't come over here. And I don't know anyone around who feeds wild birds watermelon seeds

We managed to finish planting the fall tomatoes and peppers today. Heat is slowing down what needs doing here. We hope to finish planting peas in the morning along with some pole beans. 3 kinds of pole beans. They are going on a netting we have never had to trellis them up with. It looks a lot stronger and better than the home made trellis we have been using.

Despite the heat I decided to make the effort to protect my melons from further predation.

Not bad for a seat-of-the-pants effort?

I left it loose so not to provide a stable and easy climb.

There are three watermelons and two cantaloupes ripening, so I hope it helps protect them.

Two years ago I had planted a few cantaloupes and the raccoons got them all. I will not plant more until I can fence them behind enough amps to make them decide they do not like them. Or sweet corn.
