I use a Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 and run it at 100.5 degrees and it has been awesome...

Thank's, I'll check it out. My DH is trying to see if he can get this one that I have working right again. It's not holding temperature like it used to.

I use the Nurture Right 360, and now that the initial issues are resolved, it's a pretty decent 'bator. If you choose the Nurture Right, make sure it's the newer model. There was an upgrade a couple of years ago that made a huge difference (no more scalped chicks!) There are still a few of the older models floating around on shelves, so you'll have to check. The newer ones have a permanent cover over the fan box (built into the lid.) The older models will have a rubbery, after-market grid or nothing at all.

@ValerieJ Let us know how it goes with the boys! It seems they have to fight it out to sort who is dominant as long as it doesn't get too brutal.. that's the hard part knowing when to step in. My crazy rooster/hen is so big compared to my little rooster I had to pull her off him right away. My current rooster is amazing and I do not want him injured or downgraded... especially to a hen! I have yet to build the fence so they can see each other.. I have to move about a foot of snow before I can and I am not up for that lol. I noticed the new ones are sneezing though. :( So I'm glad I haven't done anything yet.. I'm giving them some VetRX and hopefully that will help.

PS all you people with turkens need to post some pictures! I need a turken fix! :lau

Thanks for asking. So far the two cockerels get along okay. Pippi knows that Mad is the leader of the flock and stays out of his way for the most part. Also, it seems that Mad would protect Pippi and considers him one of his chickens. I'm leaving them in their separate run with the two pullets for now. As long as no one is getting hurt, I think it will work fine. A time will come when I have to do something different, and I'm ready to do that when it comes. They are such a challenge but I'm committed to them. Interestingly, I can pick Mad up and he doesn't complain at all. He's not aggressive to me. So that is a hopeful sign.

That's awesome! I think roosters are so worth keeping around. My little Nugget protects the flock with his life and has saved them many a times from predators lurking nearby. He hasn't fought anything off that I know of, but he stays alert and makes sure they hide. I did have a rooster who fought off a hawk though!

That's the main reason I want a rooster, an early warning system. Also, I don't want to raise chicks anymore. I'd like a hen to do that.

I'm getting 16 more chicks of various breeds, 4 pilgrim geese, and hopefully another puppy. I may or may not hatch a few more bantams, and mixed breed standards depending on how things go next year.

That's the plan. :) Whether I stick to it or not is the question.

I'm already updating my plans. I'm also getting 16 turkey poults in June. :) I hope that's it.
