Time for the moon phase? or time of day to give eggs to a broody.I have two broodies now asking for eggs plus a friend's broody as well. Whats the appropriate time to give them eggs? I am on Day 11?
I meant what day in the cycle, should I give them now or wait for a few more days in the hatch cycle. They have already been broody for a week or so and have fake eggs under them.Time for the moon phase? or time of day to give eggs to a broody.
I would wait until the broody has been setting for at least a week. Guy can answer the moon phase questions.

If I can only find those shrimp bagsOnce the hen has been sitting for a couple days, I'd give them unincubated fertile eggs right away.
If the eggs are already in the incubator, you could swap them with the fake eggs any time up till the 18th or 19th day.
To hatch with the waxing moon in Cancer you can start the eggs anywhere from midnight last night (May 26th) up to 7:22AM Friday morning the 29th.
I'm probably going to set eggs today sometime.
My turners are full so I'll be putting eggs in cartons on the floor of the incubator till I move the others into the hatcher and LG Friday and they're due Monday, June 1st.
For future setting times, I'll post occasionally since it's too late to edit the first post in this thread.
June 5th, 6th and 7th will be the next setting to hatch with the waxing moon in Scorpio.
Here's the eggs that hatched on the 23rd in their pedigree bags after I moved them to the hatcher.
I was at a poultry swap where I was given the 40 eggs to set from someone working on a Slow Food Project of Heritage White Wyandottes and New Hampshires. His incubator was already full and asked if I had room. I'll take the chicks back to him at the next swap. These are the eggs getting moved on Friday.
Black Penedesenca eggs that get transferred Friday.
Here's a pair of my blacks.

I am going to make dividers in my bator with: Legos, window screen, hot glue sticks, and a bic cigarette lighter (rats chewed my hot glue gun's cord in storage)
Thanks for the great ideas. I think if I use hardware cloth even with great care, the chicks will always be at risk of injury around the edges. These shrimp bags are perfect. Now if I can just get them in time for my hatch.I bought 100 of them at a flea market so I got lucky but here's some ideas.
