Home made chicken plucker / how to make

OK, this was just referenced on Homemadetools.net Much of the stuff there deals with wood working or welding, but every once in a while a great item like this shows up. Is there a video of this in action? I don't want to build something that will grab feathers and then toss them all over the...

Often times we wait 12 weeks if ranging mixed with organic grain feed. A small space is ideal or a narrow run with obsticles to prevent them from sprinting.

--- ALERT --- Chicken Hawk aka Cooper hawk got one of our birds. Mom is happy is was a spare roo and not one of the new hens from added to the flock last night. Goats are now back in the penned area and the dogs on lines outside the fence. Back to perimeter patrol they go. Anyone ever try...

Nice work on the FR and next gens. Love the pix too. We have about 7 of the FR hens left. They are still the main staple layers. One FR hen passed on over night. We didn't know she was egg bound, then hemoraged and died. She layed the biggest eggs and at times up to two per day.

Well mom left a few hours ago. A farm has RI Reds that just started laying. The have them for $10 each. She just got the last 4 tonight. From what I heard, there were a few hundred. Looks like the RI Red population in our area is making a big come back. Now it's my turn. I got to build on...

    DIY 12VDC water warmer

Well, things stayed just that, warm for the water. :) As Spring is here, this thread will be very slow until the late fall or early winter. One another note, how to keep the birds COOL here in the south. ;)

Time to get the DE on them ASAP. Wipe it as evenly as you can get it down to the skin. The problem areas are the vent and rear. Sometimes plucking some rear feathers helps with daily treatments. Keep it up daily for at least 3 weeks. Put the DE in the dust bath areas too. Generous helpings...

The Sprinfield one on US-41 at the fair grounds is a hit-or-miss for selection. Not all farmers show up every weekend. Also, that market is not geared to prevent produce from outher countries nor other areas of the country being sold. So, it's really no different than going to Krogers...

The electric dog collars have so-so effects even on the highest settings. If a dog is determined to do something, it will ignore the static shock bursts. Now, with that said, there are electric dog collars that have remotes so you can control the bad behavior and apply verbal correction. This...

Sorry to hear. We have lost 5 since late last year due to the dog. It's not so much that our dog goes after them to purposely kill them to chew, but the dog wants to play too hard with them. We have since placed dog runs on the farm away from the chicken penned yards.

Fencing off portion of creek...is it possible?

Can you just dig a mini-pond near the creek and have it fill naturally? Then place the fencing betwix the pond and creek on dry ground? A tube can then be added to the mini-pond for run-off purposes. Depending on the flow of the creek at times and what travels down it (logs and brush) it...

Same here, no power out on the farm. BUT, the KMart and BigLots after Christmas 70% mark-downs allowed the solar lawn lights with snowflakes to only be 50-cents each. Mom grabbed a whole bunch.

Depending on the type of FRers you got, the slow growing ones will follow you and not wonder off so far. If your area has no vegitation or limited on bugs, indeed most birds will seek out other places. As for the wings, clip the one side way down and the other side about half way. This way...

Basic hay or grass clippings need to be at least full green for the FRs. They really like full plant leaves the best. The dry hay they totally ignore.

What's all included with the unit? Does it have an egg turner? How many eggs can it incubate at a given time?

OUCH! That is a sad lose. If you need a Barred Rock roo or a White Plymouth Rock roo, we have a few to spare. We are just up the road from you. They are all about 22 weeks old. Late last year, we had a near-miss of a tree on the property. A direct hit would have set us back a good deal.
