I'm hoping to do one more in October to see if I could have some chicks hatch on my birthday :) and then I'm also done until the New Year's Hatch Along.
My hen only decided to stay on the eggs for an extra day. I candled and saw no movement but I am hopeful. Day 17. I added it to a makeshift incubator I made at the last minute, temperature was reading 97.7 before I went to bed and this morning it was at 80 degrees. I hope the baby is ok.
Barred chicks will have a yellow dot on top of their heads. Did any of your chicks have the dot? But I guess it's also possible the eggs could have come from both your Barred Rock and Australorp.
I haven't been through what you are describing yet but I believe I saw that thread too and they separated the chick to keep others from pecking on him and to see if he'll absorb it. If I remember correctly the chick didn't make it but I wish you luck. I'll be crossing my fingers for you!
12 hours later and I'm home! I thought I was going to come home to a baby chick but this baby is taking it's time. The shell is cracked on the surface but no external pip, I assume it is working on creating an external pip. I might not be able to sleep tonight LOL
Day 20 1/2 and it's ALIVE!!! Internal pip (Candled again this morning)!
Edited to add: How long from internal pip to hatch usually? I'm going to be at work and I really wanted to be there to watch baby hatch :/
So maybe I'm just being impatient but today is day 20 for my broody's lone Australorp egg and it hasn't pipped yet... don't they normally pip on day 19 or 20?
