Just discovered my New Years rooster is doing his job as well. Cracked open an egg this morning and saw my first fertile egg :) I'm going to start collecting a few to incubate.
I weaned my guy as well. I pulled the heat away. He got used to the downstair's temp, which runs 55-60. Then I moved him out in the garage which is basically the outside temps, then finally outdoors. He's only with two girls and the 3 of them are bantams. He's almost the size of the pullets...
My little 8 weeker is out there right now in the single digits and the teens and he's hacking it just fine :) He has his girls to snuggle up to. Plenty of fluffy bedding too.
I'm not sure if he's male. I kinda refer them all as males till proven otherwise. But I did take note of some pink coming in on his comb. So he could very well be male. He's a chocolate wyandotte bantam. He came from shipped eggs so I don't have his parents. I have more hatching eggs on the way...
My little Chip got 1st?! Yippee! Thank you everyone. He's passed out and snoozing away in his brooder. He has no clue lol. Thank you Ron for everything! This was lots of fun. I enjoyed it. Everyone had super cute chicks, ducklings and quails
Thank you!
I've always wondered this when I hear of opossoms attacking chickens. I thought they were slow? I'm kinda creeped out now. Luckily I haven't dealt with them yet.
I think it's probably stuck. I've never had one that zipped for 6 hours. If they're zipping, the yolk and vessels should be absorbed and the chick is ready to come out. Me personally, I'd help that one out :x
Okay, here's "Chip" He's (she's?) a bantam chocolate wyandotte (I know I keep saying that, but I saw someone requested to put the breed down with the pics). Unfortunately he's a lone survivor out of 9 eggs total. The two eggs I had in with him never pipped or peeped and they were no longer...
They're not technically late. Tomorrow would be day 21. Since they're bantams, I was kind of expecting a little bit of an early hatch. But this chick hatched out early and there's no signs of hatching in the other two. Think I'll wait a little longer though.
I had a terrible experience with two delaware hatches. None survived. They seemed too large for their shell and had lots of swelling in the neck and other very obvious deformities. It was sad. Was worried it was me or the incubator but I went on to hatch other breeds out just fine. Thinking it...
