I'm done hatching my 2 back to back hatches for the fall. I have 15 chicks from the September HAL and 28 from this HAL. The older babies I have off the heat lamp on the bottom floor and the new babies on the top floor with a white light night time only because it's still 96 degrees out. I have...
Ok I think my hatch is about over. I have 28 chicks and one still hatching (6 no signs of life). The rest I put in a broader I just set up using my old incubator lid because my heat lamp broke. I hope that works, it's on the base of a guinea pig cage with a screen lid on the other half. I'll...
OK. Thanks guys. I have 3 more since then. So cool. It's awesome to watch. The kids are loving it, it's basically our adventure for today. And mother in law came too. I gave a lady I don't know 2 dozen eggs for free for her school project, I love that kids get to experience it.
So far 5 out. But total disaster just happened! The sensor got pooped on, making it register super low 95.5 and kept pumping out heat and my other 2 thermometers were reading 112!! So I had no choice but to open it and clean off the poop and then it registered 105. The humidity of course dropped...
Sorry I haven't been on here much this HAL. Kids are home for fall break which eats my time but it'll be cool for them to see the hatch. I am on day 18 or 19 I'm not sure. I set Friday night September 23rd. I have 35 eggs in lock down. I filled the 2 wells up with water and the humidity was...
With so few eggs you could add little jars with water and lids to hold heat in case there's cold spots and then probably increase the temperature a degree, I always ran my still air at 102. I'm running my forced air around 100, maybe even 101 because there's a cold corner for some reason that...
Yes! I candled 2 more rows this morning and the last 2 rows this afternoon. It rained all day which was a perfect day to do it. I found a blood ring, which I pulled and a couple that looked a little underdeveloped which I'll leave for now. Otherwise like 37 awesomely developed eggs! Very...
Thanks for the advice guys! I have such limited time at night with 4 kids but I managed to candle 2 rows in that auto turner, that thing is new to me and I'm scared in the dark to drop one. I went through the first 13, seeing shadows, excellent air cells and veins but so impossible in my darkest...
Day 7 I just candled 2 and there's definitely chicks in there! I usually candle all of them and mark air cells but I'm not sure I'm going to do that. I have them in the auto turner and it's full, 41 eggs. I don't know if I can get each one out easily. It would take forever and the incubator will...
Hahaha mine looked just like that when I had misters. Yours are beautiful. I have a swamp cooler now but it just broke, it's always breaking. It's great though for them, they stand in front of it with their feathers in the cool breeze meanwhile we're on patio dying, joking, must be nice.
Oh wow another Arizonan! I have my last hatch in the garage with a small white heat light, those big red ones get too hot. I think temp drops in the night but I have 15 chicks and they sleep in a pile, they'll go outside in a coop with the light in a few days.
Thanks! That's kind of what I'm going for. I know mine (not the ameraucanas in the middle) won't be purebred but hopefully they'll lay pretty colored eggs too.
Hi. I'm in Arizona and it's just now getting cool enough to start hatching. I'm starting my second hatch for this season (I hatch a couple each fall and spring). I just picked up a dozen local Ameraucanas and added to my mixes of RIR roo and hens are blue, black and wheaten copper marans, olive...
