    August Hatch-A-Long

I use a hobo-var for incubation and I can rarely get the humidity lower then 40%. I use a small older incubator for hatching... Humidity is at about 50%

Here are the 4 survivors of my first Aug Hatch. The temps were high and low and the eggs were shipped. :) It was a bit of a mess. I do staggered hatches so the next batch is in lock down.

My first August hatch is done, and I have 5 lives chicks, 2 don't look so hot. 5/10. I have a staggered hatch with another batch of 18, in three days! :) Pictures to follow.

Congrats on the hatch. I have 2 out that look good, one out who looks really bad, like it's beak is deformed, 4 with no action, 3 in process. I can't wait until I can open it up and look at them. These chicks spent 4 days nearly 10 degrees hot, and then with the temp all over the place well I...

My temp was all over the place, and too hot for several days! I hear peeping in several now. So, stay hopeful. OMG, I sure hope you Blue Double Laced Barnevelders make it. (Can I admit I am a tiny bit jealous... but would be so happy for you to hatch them alive!!!)

I moved them to the hatcher early, but today is day 18. :) Thanks for the luck, these eggs will need it.

I have one peeping egg out of my shipped, overheated, cooled, and reheated eggs. Others are rocking. If they hatch these are going to be some tough chicks. 10 eggs in lock down.

@ WendyF, my first hatch, hatched on day 25. I was getting ready to do a float check. Only 2 of them hatched though. I don't know what happened. I hope your will hatch late!

I have some beautiful "Mutts". They are healthy and lay eggs. The roosters are delicious. I like pure bred, but no reason to be a chicken snob!

Just moved 9 eggs out of the incubator into the hatcher - one day early. I needed space in the incubator. :) All eggs show movement under the worst conditions possible. I got a new incubator and thought the temp was holding prior to adding my poor eggs.

Aug hatch update: I got a new thermometer. I found out that my eggs have been on the hot side, and temp is not equal in the incubator. I have some development, and one egg from a corner spot with movement, but it is all quite questionable at this time. :( I am not the best at candling, so...

Ha Ha, I have had to limit my discussions of chickens around others, so as to not be the crazy chicken lady!

First of all, very sorry about the lose of your other eggs. Thank you very much for following up. I had not heard of eggs turning dark before.

I love watching that. I have two mommas and they must have a different chirp, because there is no confusion with the chicks! Aug: Update. Just candled eggs I felt were certainly dead, after rough shipping and a bad start in the incubator. We have action!!!
