Whoo Tehama County! If you're still looking, there are sometimes roosters at The Loft/Reynold's Ranch in Red Bluff. But there are also awesome people on here, so there are lots of options! Best of luck!
Something that I found to be quite useful is taking gallon milk jugs and filling them about 3/4ths with water and freezing them. Then I put them in the shade of the coop, inside the coop, and then one other one in another shady spot so the birdies have places to go. I also freeze food in ice...
Did some culinary stuff for the birdies. Two ice trays with food mush, then three bowls that are food and zucchini. After I took the picture I added some more water to the top two as those soaked up really fast. Now they're in the freezer. I also have milk jugs frozen and are in both coops so...
Just curious, has anyone made anything for your feather kids out of palets? We have a bunch of them and I want to do something with them before they end up going away, but I'm not sure what. I'm looking more at shelter/shade more than anything, but I'm open to other ideas :D
There's a kiddie pool for the ducks, and we're just gonna have to keep the mist system on for most of the day (right now we just do it in the afternoon/hottest part of the day...but yikes). I am gonna be getting some 2 liter bottles tomorrow, but I just put an empty milk jug in the freezer so...
Ugh, I don't even want to think about triple digits yet! They have a lot of shade now, and we're putting some trees in around their enclosure so hopefully that'll help too. I can probably add another shade cloth. I might see if we could put a fan or something in their coop. I gotta get a...
This heat sucks! >:( What do you guys do to help keep your birds cool? I feel so bad, some of the hens were panting. I made ice cubes out of soaking their food and freezing them, and they were playing with them while I was out there. We also have a mist system on one half of their enclosure...
Thank you! They're so much fun to watch, even as they get older. We have four 10 week olds and they race up and down their enclosure flapping their wings like they're flying, but they're running LOL
So I ended up purchasing two sexed KCs from Metzer Farms. The lady I was going to get a pair of Pekings from was not exactly easy to communicate with. So everyone, meet Hershey and Skittles! I was a nervous momma because the post office didn't call this morning like I thought they were...
We got quite wet too. Not much in the way of thunder and lightning though. Chico was hit hard, and I can see Chico's storms from where I'm at. Heck of a light show!
We just finished our coop/enclosure and so I was a worried momma (first time flock owner), but the birds seemed pretty...
Update: I found a pair of Peking yearling hens, working on actually speaking with the seller, we've been playing telephone tag (whoops!). Hopefully I can meet with her tomorrow and bring home my new babies :D
