I love the coop! Any particular reason you switched from sand to mulch? I am about to add sand to my run and was just wondering. The pictures are great!

This wild sand was very dusty. Just too much for the birds and myself. Purchased play box sand is much less dirty and dusty. I needed a new medium and found that wood mulch is cleaner, actually easier to clean and warmer in the winter. Sand is quite cold, great for summer, not so much for winter. Sand is back breaking heavy, wood mulch chips are super light. :)

I didn't think about setting aside a specific area for my girls to dust bathe in, but after reading this I don't think I want to chance them upending my garden once I get to planting this winter.

Very informative; came out great! I love the idea of the poop screen. I'm going to set something up like that in my coop!

I have also heard that too much space is coddling behavior. I would rather my chickens have lots of space than to deal with behavioral issues; especially since they only get to free range for half the day.

Never thought about putting my compost pile in the coop run area; I am willing to try it to give the vegetation a chance to grow in there again.

I have four 6 week-old chicks that I was looking forward to introducing to my three year-old hens. I may wait another week or two. Three of the chicks are about the same size as my hens; however I do have a Bantam that is small, but feisty. I don't want him to be targeted so I may just put off introductions for another week or so. The chicks have been in a brooder that has been inside of the main coop, so everyone has been able to see and not touch either other for about three weeks now. I will updated after introductions!

Before reading this article, I was not aware that cool water could potentially suck bacteria in through the porous shell. Will definitely wash with warm water from now on!
