So no-one else has seen anything like this before? Those last pics were not the end, BTW... Here are current pictures of Ferdinand after finishing his molt!
Has anyone had this happen before? My 1 1/2 yr old Wheaten Ameraucana rooster is going through his first molt, and almost all his black feathers are growing back in WHITE!!! I bought this rooster as a juvenile (4 months old) from a lady who had ordered hatching eggs from two Ameraucana...
Ok, here is a group picture of some of my Easter HAL chicks in their brooder. (the rest of them were hiding under the heat plate) In case you didn't see my earlier post @mlm Mike my final chick count is 31.
They are right next door to the one week old chicks from last week's hatch...
If it is a LF Welsummer and not a bantam, you can probably safely give her all the chicks you mentioned, which would be a total of 14 chicks, right? Last year for the EHAL I had two broody LF hens just in time for the end of the hatch(a Buff Orpington & a Barred Rock), and I gave each of them...
Ok, looks like this will be it for me. I had to help the last Bielefelder who pipped, and then got stuck to the membrane. It is still in the incubator, with the top half of its shell off, with a wet papertowel around it, waiting for it to be ready to push the rest of the way out.
So my...
Whew! I have had a busy night! Literally up every couple of hours to more chicks screaming as they hatched! I think at least a dozen hatched overnight - I had moved the first 7 to the brooder before bed time. Up to 27 chicks out right now, including 1 Swedish Flower Hen, 7 Jubilee...
Oh my gosh!!! Those little panda suits are ADORABLE!!! I can almost understand how you could pay over $100 for them! Congratulations on the excellent hatch!
Ok, I might have a problem with one of the Bielefelder eggs... I was looking around at the hatching tray for more pips - I have 3 chicks hatched now BTW, another Wheaten & a Silkie! Anyway, I suddenly noticed this yellow/brown wet spot near the back corner of the incubator! It was under a...
I just took a chance and quickly opened the door to help the little guy (ahem, GIRL) since it was still having trouble getting totally out of its shell. The main problem was that it had managed to wedge its top shell partly down inside the bottom one, keeping it from easily climbing out due to...
First chick out for me! A little Wheaten Ameraucana! It is having a hard time getting its butt out of the bottom half of its shell because I had the eggs all kind of leaning against each other and this one is smack dab in the middle!
Yes!!! I have a pip on one egg of each of the Jubilee Orps, Bielefelders, & Swedish Flower Hens!!! A couple of the Wheaten AM's & Silkies are making a little more progress, but no zipping yet... Come on chickies!!!
ETA: I take that back! I just heard some happy little peeps from the...
If the membrane is really dried on that zipped egg you will have to help it. I would take the egg out and wrap it in a warm wet paper towel to help re-moisten the membrane, then carefully try to unstick/loosen the edges of the membrane around the zipped part. Then put the egg back in the...
Up to 5 pips here - 3 Silkies, plus the two Wheaten AM's that pipped last night. Still looking for the first pip on the Jubilee Orps, Bielefelders, and Swedish Flower Hens.
Congrats to all those who already have hatched chicks!
I am a bit frustrated with the Ova-Easy incubator as it...
I just found my first two pips also!! They are on two Wheaten Ameraucana eggs. Right on schedule! Come on chickies!!! Tomorrow should be very exciting...
