Ksane, if no one else steps up and wants him he is yours. I'd keep him but it just isn't working out and my main roo is really good at watching out for the girls. Thanks to everyone for the information. Shawn

Cool! Thank you. Now I just need to find him a home. Anyone need another resident? SDS

KK, I'd offer my own guess but that's all it would be, a guess. He is a really cool bird but I hate to see him getting picked on. When I let them out to free range he runs off by himself or maybe with one other hen but for the most part stays away from the rest of the birds. SDS

And one more question, any idea what kind of rooster this might be? I really like him and wish I could keep him but my kids really want to keep our old roo and he has been a good protector so I won't fire him quite yet. This guy has an extra toe on each foot, feathered legs and cheek feathers...

Does this bird look like a rooster? I just can't tell. It's about 6 months old and is larger than the other birds that were hatched at the same time. It has longer tail feathers but the comb is small. There are nubs where the spurs would be but I just can't tell. Looking at the body and...

Update on the two chicks that I thought I had crippled by my failure to pay attention. They seem to be almost completely healed! One of them is even roosting and the other one barely has any limp at all. I am feeling a LOT better now. I felt like a complete idiot for injuring them. I am...

Thanks for the advice. Mom and chicks have been moved back inside for now. I'm hoping they heal up fine. Man I feel like a stooge. SDS

Well I have gone and done something stupid and now I need advice. Short background, I have a buff orpington who hatched out 6 chicks about 3 weeks ago. Up until four days ago I was keeping them in the garage in a large brooder pen of sorts. Approx. 5' X 5' with a warming lamp on one side...

If I leave her in the coop will the other birds bother them? When the weather turns bad they all stay inside and I don't want a fight because of the chicks.

Okay, I have a question and I know I'm behind the curve here. I have a hen sitting on eggs that should hatch on Thursday. Just in time for the miserable weather. I keep my birds in a coop with a large attached run and now have a portable chicken tractor that I had intended to keep the new mom...

If she isn't "broke" by Monday I may have to try that. I'm not real crazy about adding young birds right now but I may not have much of a choice if she won't give up. My wife won't be very happy at the prospect of MORE birds though. I'm not anywhere near the numbers of birds that most of you...

I have a hen, buff orpington, who went broody about 3 weeks ago. I've tried moving her every time I go outside and it hasn't done any good at all. I had a little free time today so I made up a cage to keep her in for a few days until I can get her broken from being broody. The...

I figured it was just me. I have 8 layers and I've been getting one or maybe two eggs a day for the past week. I'm sure open to any suggestions to increase that egg count. SDS
