While we're at it, here's another. Very similar looking, but with crisper, stronger markings and more black markings on face. She also has a white speckle on each eyelid (at first I thought it was in the eye, but it's a color patch on the eyelid). She's very sassy for a tiny chick , and...
I received an assortment of rare chicks and brown egg laying chicks from Meyer Hatchery - 16 total. I'm trying to identify them now. I've got this adorable little girl who I can't decide if she's a Welsummer, a Speckled Sussex, or a Light Brown Leghorn. I'm leaning toward the Welsummer, as her...
By the way - the girls in your profile pic look just like my TSC ladies from 2 years ago (Nugget, Ginger, Little Girl, Chickaletta, and Princess Cluck Cluck). Lovely!
Oh no! I really feel for you. I'm almost certain the post office doesn't update their tracking. And the worst part is not knowing where the babies are or when to expect them. I'll say a little prayer (or whatever you believe in!) that they are safely on their way!
They are here! Got the call from the post office this morning at 6am. Took the day off work and ran to get them.
All 16 are alive, and all seem very healthy. They are mostly very curious about me, and don't show much fear, as my TSC chicks 2 years ago did.
Now to figure out what breeds (I...
The brooder (a repurposed 4x8 elevated planter my husband built years ago) is all set up and ready to go. The post office worker said they get a truck in very, very early (before they even get there) and she bets the chicks will be on that truck. That isn't particularly comforting, but it's out...
I'm so jealous that you got yours! USPS tracking is broken on mine so I am totally in the dark on where they are.:he
You have adorable little fluffs there, though!
Not that I need to justify my family's decision to have them mailed, but for circumstances that I won't get into here, it's what we had to choose.
My first choice was pick-up, too.
Thanks, all. I called the post office yesterday to give them a heads up, but checked again today and heard that a truck comes at 4 or 5 am tomorrow. Ugh.
I realize that it's only 36 hours if it comes then, but I'm still nervous. We're only 100 miles from the hatchery, so I'd hoped for sooner...
Hi All,
Anyone else waiting on the shipment from this week's Meyer hatch? It's my first time getting babies in the mail and I'm an anxious ball right now.
Per Meyer, the chicks supposedly went to the post office at 3:30pm yesterday, but the USPS tracking is still showing "Pre-Shipment" as a...
This morning I went out and examined "Lucy" and "Ethel" and gathered as much photo evidence as I could. We have not heard any crowing today, so I was thinking maybe I had cockerel paranoia. But then...
..."Lucy" has spurs coming in (see photos, the buff).
I hadn't even thought about the...
We took in two young chickens that were abandoned at a wildlife center. No idea on the age, but they are smaller and lighter than the 5 girls in our existing flock. Also, they still make "cheeping" noises. Their combs have grown in the week and a half that they've been here.
I'm pretty sure...
Yes, I totally agree. You generally get what you pay for.
We spent quite a bit of time researching coops and when the coop came on sale on Black Friday, we snagged it for sub $200. We've been beefing ours up with extra paint, liquid nails, caulking, and other reinforcements.
If we decide to...
