    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

When I had sebrights they grew up fast! However, as they get older their combs and color tends to change some. They acted mature when they were really young, but it took them a while to fully grow into their behavior : )

Don't worry, young laced birds often have poor patterning. This doesn't mean they'll become show-quality, but in my experience it takes until they are fully mature for their true pattern to be evident. The older they get the thinner the lacing gets.

Depends on the individual hen. Some sebrights don't ever go broody, others like to start young, almost immediately after laying. Most go broody before their first year, but a few wait a year. Rarely do they go broody after they are two unless they had previously been broody in the past.

They are talkative for sure, but being small they aren't really extremely loud as much as high-pitched and shrill.

He's a handsome boy. : ) Yep, this is what a Red Sex-link rooster looks like. The names for these mixes include the Golden Comet, Red Star, Cinnamon Queen and others.

My sebright mix went broody this spring and hatched 11 chicks. They are around 2 months old now and she is already broody again with around 9 chicks. Believe me, they can go for multiple clutches a year. : )

x2 He looks to be a mix-breed rooster to me, because of the dark feathers on his wings.

Teen birds can be a little picky about one another, especially if there is a size, age, breed, or species difference. Try putting wire between them for a week or so, then let them play together out in a yard where it isn't their "territory". Eventually they should want each others' company. If...

I'm glad you guys took him in. : ) He/she may be a mix-breed or it could be a purposefully designed hybrid for laying or for meat. The cream tinge to the white color makes me think he isn't pure.

Is it from a hatchery or farm store? It looks like a mix-breed to me, but if its from a hatchery it should be pure. What type of comb does it have? You can try posting in "What breed or gender is this?" to get more answers.

Awesome picks! They look so happy! I have around 11 broody hens/momma hens and four of them are sebright mixes. Half of them have standard chicks as well. : )
