Im working on my incubator. From 0° the tray will tilt to 40-45°. Would I have any issues if I build a small gear box that would take an hour for it to reach the 45° mark. So from 0 - 45 - 0 - 45 and back to 0 would take 4bours. So from set to lockdown it would constantly be moving very slow...
I have heard of these birds, so I looked them up. The "real" flocks is locked over in France. And we have a breeder of them in California. Are they good for "pets" or just highend resturant food. Id like to get my hands on some. Thanks for your info.
When designing a auto-turner rack, how "far" do they rotate. If it is sitting flat at 0° is going up 45° and then 45° past 0 in the other direction for a total of 90° good enough? Also in the racks eggs are sat on end and then when in lockdown/hatchery do they just lay its side?
How do you know that there bird is a purebreed!?
..well farmer jimbob down the lane by the big ole oak tree said it was...then he shook my hand.
When buying or selling a chicken/chick... is there any form of papers to prove its bloodline like there is with other animals?
How often do auto-turners rotate? I have a small bator with auto turning trays that I haven't used yet...but am wanting to design and build my own setup. I read most people that hand turn do it 3 times a day.. could I have mine turn every hr or 2 or is that too often. Thanks again for the info.
Im slowly getting closer to doing my own hatching. A guy at work just gave me a new (never used) LG with auto turners and a fan setup so it isn't a still air. Can't be a free price. Anyway my question is...is a hatchery an incubator that's set more orless for lockdown till hatching... so when it...
I came across this breed and am have been thinking about them and would like to try to obtain some. I haven't looked too hard but just at a quick glance I didn't see anyone that has them here in the US. Anyone know where I could get my hands on some... or know if I am able travel and bring some...
How often does your cock crow. We got a set (roo/hen) from a friend and he seems to crow every 10seconds for 2hours.. He is in his isolation pen and wasn't sure if that's part of the reason or if he's just a noisy bird.
Awhile back through a post somebody linked a heat source, fan and I think a light or something else. Think they got it off ebay. I am thinking of making a incubator and was looking for that kit if anyone has the info on it or something like it. Thanks for.your time and info.
I was wondering how bantams worked. I have a standard RIR and some bantam RIR. Would you breed a hen that's close in color to a RIR with a standard RIR roo and then just keep the ones that look RIRish till you have a small bird that only has RIR signs? Or is there some other method used in...
If you were to have...say, 10 roos and 10 hens. Would there be. Pecking order for the roos and one for the hens. Or is there just one order where some hens bully the lesser roo. I don't have a issue, just one of those questions that popped into my head. Thanks for your time.
While sitting with my wife this evening and letting out brooder babies enjoy they grass. I got to thinking...thinking of making a reverse chicken tractor. One that will be 6 or 8' by 3 or 4 wide. It'll be. a smaller trailer with pnuematic tires for easy rolling. Ill use growing trays that are...
When building a coop you don't want it drafty, but you do want good ventilation. Where is this line drawn. Is the ventilation purely from "rising heat" or is it caused by a source of air flow other then the vents that allows the air to flow between. Thanks for your time.
How long do eggs last and are still able to be hatched. Like if I only 1 chicken I wanted to breed and it laid 1 egg/day how many days could I collect eggs before I "had" to start the bator up. Thanks for the info.
Our first group of chickens we a small flock ( white crested blue polish, and 3 frizzled bantam cochins ) from the get-go the WCBP seemed calm..never chased or got overly excited. Now that they are out of the brooder and into the pen/free ranging the WCBP is the top dog.
My 2nd group of chicks...
I have yet to get to hatch my own eggs. I am slowly gathering info. I was wondering when you turn the eggs by hand or by an auto turner, how far you turn them. Is it end over end or something like 45° one direction then back past 0° till your at 45° in the opposite direction. I like to think how...
I saw a ad for a lil red flashing light that "scares" predators away.. have any of you used these on your coops or runs and do they work? Thanks for your time.
I am wanting to hatch some eggs one of these days. I seen someone that had a incubator and a hatchery. Most seem to just use the incubator. How does it work, I mean with auto turning trays do you have some that don't turn that you place the lockdown eggs on, or is there a 2nd unit that is a...
I was wondering what some of you use to help design your coops. I have heard of Google sketchup and wasn't sure what else was out there. Id like a free program if possible.
