Wow, thanks!!! This is my first batch of babies! I got the parents when they were already 2 months old and knew the gender. Will post more pics when they grow up more.
My Seramas hatched out some babies a couple of weeks ago. The dad is frizzled and the moms are smooth.
Out of five chicks, there is one frizzle. I don't know how to sex the chicks, so if anyone has any tips I'm open to them, LOL.
This was an unplanned hatching- I had been out of town. When I...
I just want to say that I am so impressed with my Seramas. They have such an upright stance, and look majestic for their small size. I have two pullets and just got a frizzled cockerel. I am hoping to breed them when they come of age. I can't think of a more regal-looking chicken. I'm hooked :-D
I'm considering NNs. How are they in temperament? I like all my chickens to be docile since they are my pets.
Also, I realise this is a bit off-topic, but are Showgirls the cross with a NN and a silkie?
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
Ok. Found this company in Miami. Feather testing costs about $20 bucks.

I'm going to give it a try. Not a bad price, especially when it's so difficult to sex young Silkies. Hope this helps.
I would like to get DNA testing for my Silkie chick. Do any of you know where I can get this done? I want to get the chick sexed. I've no idea where to begin to find out where to get this done.
Thanks for any recommendations.
I only have one roo and he's a Silkie- and he's not too popular with the ladies (I don't think they are too impressed with his dancing), so I'm afraid he's gonna be a bad role model for my new cockerel, LOL. Ye gads. I might end up with lifetime bachelors and very frustrated ladies, LOL.
My husband refers to Seramas as "pocket chickens" LOL.
Just got a frizzled cockerel. He's so cute. I also got a silkie chick of the same age, about 2 months old. What is so adorable is that the little Serama (Poppy) follows the much larger Silkie (Puffer) around and does whatever it does. Not...
I ended up ordering chicks from California Hatchery in late January. They are one of the few that have a small minimum order and a good variety of chickens available. I don't know about accusations of abuse- I should think that if it were the case, they would shut them down? I'm still new to...
I have a couple of Serama pullets that are probably about 3 months old (or thereabouts) and I have them in a brooder set-up in a large dog crate indoors. They now have most of their feathers in. Was wondering how long until I can let them outdoors? Our mornings are still pretty cold and we're...
I can't think of a cuter chick than Silkies, LOL. Very cute photos!
I just acquired a white Silkie hen. I think she is a hybrid/mutt though because she doesn't have feathered toes, although she does have five toes. She is a sweetie though, and since I have no plans to show my birds, she is...
Hi and welcome. I'm in Three Rivers, a couple of hours from Fresno. I'm more or less new to having chickens too. I wanted orps, but ordered them from a hatchery because I couldn't find any in my area. I'm up in the hills from Visalia.
I hear that some of the feed stores/grower supply houses...
When crossing a Silkie with a Serama, what characteristics show up in the chicks? I notice in the photos that they have the five toes and fuzz factor, but do they also inherit the black skin too? I just got two Serama pullets that I want to breed with my Silkie roo.
