All I can say is these dogs follow the chickens round & clean up any poop before it hits the ground! 🙄 And there is no way I would kiss a dog~ or even a chicken for that matter. I don't even kiss my cats & they are much cleaner animals! :plbb

Sorbet & Tootsie.
Yes, I'm a no~digger when I can get away with it. Where I am presently I have 4 raised beds that were filled from the hole made when the neighbours put in a pool. The soil is awful: leached, sandy & full of stones. 🙄 I keep finding bits of plastic everywhere & the owner seems to have put down...
I can't produce enough eggs. I give my extras away but I have more takers than I can supply even though the majority of my girls these days are bantams. I may have made a mistake initially by explaining bantam eggs are nearly all yolk & the D'Uccle's are protein rich. Oh, & I show takers...
Regular gardeners do this too by recycling plastic bottles. Cut the bottom off & bury the bottle beside what is planted. Water is poured down the tube. Useful during water restrictions as no water is wasted & all of it goes where most needed. By the time the plastic disintegrates the plant is...
Yes, thank you, Shad. I took this place for 6 months with the possibility of 3 years. The 3 years is now pretty solid so I can build flock numbers again & seriously consider the vegetable garden. ❤️
I started with rescues so I know I don't have the stomach for it. I am more & more inclined towards bantams. The big hens are getting too hard for me to handle as I age & while I would always want Campines they are on the smaller side for a standard.
Of the 9 hens I have remaining, 6 are...
Lovely! I agree that chickens *talk* to each other. Mine will also *talk* to me though I don't think I'm so good @ communicating back. The exception is the evening purr...If my girls seem a tad unsettled @ roosting I will start the *purr* & eventually everyone will join in & settle down.
Campines are the birds I have ~ related & so prone to skittishness I was warned off them both times I went to buy. However if you have the time & are patient they can be handled without major dramas. This is my Aoife.
And Ha'penny. 😊
Not lap chickens but both sociable with me. Ha'penny is...
This is a very good point. I come from a state where a percentage of the population is reliant on things like mining ~ we overturned a certain election over this particular quandary. If we want to put people out of work over fossil fuels etc we need to provide alternative employment. These...
Only *clean* energy is not the norm ~ not here anyway. I think most of Victoria's electricity comes from coal. There can't be too many dirtier options. In QLD quite a few companies use gas. While I agree wind, solar & hydro would be optimal ~ especially in Australia which has lots...
One thing that has me really puzzled is the push for electric cars. That seems to me just exchanging one set of problems for a different set of problems with no improvement in outcome.
That was a lovely read. Thank you. I did know some of it but that is the most in depth read I've seen. You are quite right. I could fall head over heels for the white gold barred bantams. 🤣 The white barred are interesting too. Pretty sure they're not available out here ~ which is probably a...
