Its been a LONG time since I wrote/visited so thought I'd stop by and drool over everyone's Marans results! My darned camera went on the fritz and had to send out for repair, seems no one at camera shops can fix a camera anymore with everything being digital. sigh.
But here are some pics of...
A friend of mine sent a photo to me and it sure looks like a BCM, a nice one at that. Or am I under the influence? She thinks its a BCM but it came with a group of chickens she purchased as babies. Its about 8-9 mos old here...or so she thinks.
For some reason, BYC is not allowing me to...
My broody Marans hens have surpassed my pathetic attempts at hatching So far 15 chicks have hatched out. We lost a couple because one hen pecked the babies as the mice had gotten into the nest and I'm sure she was pecking at the mice. Several blues and the rest black coppers. There are about...
Thanks Don, that looks very do-able for even a tool klutz like me! Will grab some stuff this weekend. Do you worry about the rodents staggering out and about where other critters can consume them, such as chickens, puppies etc?
My barn cats are basically useless! My chickens and dogs are beter mousers! Maybe I should lock a cat in the coop for a night or two? I don't think they would bother the birds and we don't have any chicks in there.

Hey thanks Geebs about my avatar.....too many cute puppy photos (photography, an addiction of mine and at one time, an income before everyone and their brother became photographers )
Thanks Geebs, will give the peppermint a try!
FlGirl, OHHH I LOVE LOVE LOVE blueberry jam!! Are they they big blueberries or the smaller ones, like Maine blueberries?

We just had broody girls hatch early and have three beautiful blacks and I think two dark blues! Daddies are
Better percentage hatching than my incubator attempts
...I had ever lived through. My own health declined rapidly, was raising at the time a 12 yr old son just starting high school, taking over hubby's *empire* of business that I had NO hand in previously except to help with data entry.
I know about estate administration and I'm appalled that...
...other livestock).
My best predator control dog is my 5 yr old CH male and he is the guardian of the flocks and the main flock lives close to his *deck* and the main flock are Marans. He and the Marans roosters get along very well also. Its fun to watch him watch to make sure the roos take...
Rsquared, Medford is a LOT different temperature wise than even near Salem (half way up the western side of the state) in that Medford has more of NoCA weather in that its hotter, sunnier during the summer and actually gets snow quite often. Given its in western OR you have the mountains all...
