He's been with us for awhile now but we are keeping two roos from our most recent hatch and no longer need him... He is an excellent hawk and fox watcher and protects our free ranging flock of 17 very well.
If interested, I am more than willing to meet you halfway!
Very excellent hawk & fox watcher - he protects his flock very well but we no longer need him. He came from McMurrays hatchery.
Free to a good home.
Willing to meet halfway if you are coming from afar.
Moms were Black Star and Australorp... Blue Laced Red Wyandotte dad.
They are gorgeous! Some brown, some BLR wyandotte, one gray/blue.
We have 6 -free to a good home - either as roosters or...soup?
He's been an awesome fox and hawk spotter even with his full head of feathers. He's about 10 months old and governs over our flock of 11 hens, but we just hatched a new set and will select a new rooster from this bunch.
I am willing to give him up to a good home... The pic was taken in march...
We hatched them - dad was a gorgeous BLRW moms are Black Star and Australorp. These roos came out beautiful! Some are all brown, some are BLRW looking and there are blue with rust flecked ones too.
I'd give preference towards people who want them to live out a good life - but if you are...
I have BLRW mutt chicks, 5 weeks old. Moms are Austraulorp, Black Star, Ameraucana and maybe the Partridge Cochin (tho no chicks have feathered feet!).
My question is this: a bunch have wattles and I have been calling them all roos... is this true?
I think all 5 Ameraucana eggs that hatched...
In order to get repeat blue chicks, do both hen & roo need this blue trait?
What types of blue are there and what is 'self' blue?
I have two 'blue' roos and one pullet that are mutts - crosses of BLRW roo and either Austraulorp or Black Star hens -not sure...
Can the roos (or the hens...
Bigggie egg! "Sparrow" announced three times that she was laying or had laid an egg - I couldn't figure out the fuss until I collected it up - wow! She's an Ameraucana, though you can't tell they are blue eggs from my husband's cell phone pic.
BLRW roo + Ameraucana, Cochin, Austraulorp, or Black Star hens = no idea!
But they are sooo cute! Out of 12 we ended up w/3 black ones, 4 wyandotte-ish looking, and 5 EE.
Here is one of the two blue (if that's what you'd call him) roos... Luckily one blue is a pullet, which we will keep, and...
I was part of a message board that tracked us all incubating eggs at the same time and it was fun to hear about people w/the same dilemmas as I...
So now with my 12 mutt chicks (100% hatch!) I am looking in the brooder thinking who's a he and who's a she??
I'd guess it is normal to have 50%...
This might be too early to know for certain, but is this little one more Black Star or Austraulorp looking? Either way, Daddy was a BLRW, so mutt, mutt, mutt - but the rest of our bunch came out identical to their mommas. I've got three of these cuties, but don't know for sure who the mom was!
Hiya, Folks!
Just in the middle of a successful hatch of 12 mutt chicks (BLRW roo, 6 different hens). We have 10 in the brooder now (yay!!!) and two left to hatch...
What I am wondering is what the percentage of roos might be?
What have your hatches been like...? Anyone end up with 10...
Hiya folks,
I have a question for all you hatchers...
We lost our beloved rooster two days ago to injuries he sustained while defending the flock from a predator... We would like to incubate some of our eggs but only just decided to do so. Is it possible to take a dozen out of the fridge and...
We found it just now, must have been laid yesterday... It is slightly cracked because of the freezing, but the membrane looks fine inside -the question is can it be eaten?
I was thinking of giving it to the dogs, but husband said ask them BYC folks who know everything....
So, what say you all??
Hiya folks,
I have an Astralorp of unknown age. She came to us a few months ago and was always a little bit ratty looking w/gnarly feet -but they seem to have gotten worse since the cold weather hit.
Any ideas?
Could it be frostbite, even though she sort of had it before it was...
I have two Polish chicks in a large crate (sides buffered from possible drafts with heavy plastic and top covered over with double waterproof plastic backed picnic blanket, deep shavings on the floor) inside a 10x10x6 coop that has 15 other 5 month old to one year old chickens roosting.
I do...
You guys all have such funny smiley faces.... Where'd ya get them? Can they be used in other forums/chats? I can get the code when I quote someone, but is there a list or something? Can you make them up?
Maybe list some here that are unusual or new or fun & funny..? Just a thought.
Hiya folks.
I am wondering when to open the cage that houses our new polish chicks and let them mix with the flock -I think they are about two months old - fully feathered and used to outdoor temps, etc.
We have a 10x10 coop in flux right now with 5 1-year old laying hens, 8 five-month old...
Wow, just have to share - we added three new hens to our flock today!!!
Started in May by wanting 6 hens. Ordered 10, switched 3 for the right chicks with other families that ordered jointly with us (impossible to separate those fuzzy butts real well) and ended up with 11, one died because...
