Raccoons leave a mess as do possums, hawks and other small predators. Foxes, coyotes, and feral/wild cats will carry the prey away from a "dangerous" area before they start to feed. I live in Lakeland, Fl and coyotes will come right into the yard to steal chickens day or night. Fences will...
The last few months I have noticed 1-2 eggs that get eaten right in the coop. At first I thought the chickens were stopping some eggs and then eating them before I could get them out of the coop/nest box. But the last few nights I narrowed it down to nighttime raids. The night before last I...
Yep, they pop up ocasionally, but my trusty 1100 will knock'em down pretty quick. Gonna be restocking my coop with some Jersey Giants here in the next week or so. Got my buddy next door getting ready for some also. Plenty of cluckers in this area, everymorning a crow or three floats thru the...
The reason for my name.....my old...really old moniker from my D&D days (aka the 70s) was Bugcrusher Jon. Then once I got over all that, off to work and higher education it became my profession...a clinical microbiologist....aka..Bugcrusher!
Pea fowl, get large and very loud in the middle of the night. Call can be heard for miles. Everyone will love them at first but when in breeding form they will start calling each other around midnight and keep at it for hours. If you are out in the woods..fine but in a neighborhood...gonna...

YEP, Predator proof them with buried chicken wire around the edges, and a roof over with at minimum bird netting or at best chainlink. Possums and raccoons will climb and drop in. Eagles/raptors and owls will fly in to get your birds.
This is a law they can not enforce....don't have the money or the manpower to police every person that has muscovy ducks. I know they have passed this, but I am wondering why??? Doesn't make any sense and reminds me of the crazy "lets round up all the illegal aliens and ship them home....same...
Mallards fly being less weight than Rouens. The Roens will not fly but may flap and glide short distances. I have 3 drake Rouen that are tame but do no like to be picked up, and are somewhat aggressive to my little dogs, mini-dashounds, pomeranian, and hound puppy, but nothing serious. They...
I have scovy eggs inbound for hatching but have raised 3 Rouens from ducklings. I was advised not to use chick feed, bu use a gamebird feed with higher protien and calcium for the bones to develop due to being a heavier bird. Mine did very well on this so I intend to do the same for the new...
