Side sprigs can become a real pain to eliminate. If he breeds with a female carrying recessive "sprigs", ALL their offspring will have sprigs...and so on. It's just reverting back to another comb type that has been bred in the past.

What ever happened to the lavender mottled? Haven't seen any more except from the one breeder who's website is down. Is it true that Lavander feathers are more fragile?
What I believe (and I'm no expert) but there must be some undocumented genes at play.
SKIN COLOR - has it's own genes.
SHANK COLOR - is the result of a combination of up to 5 genes.
Remember, when we look at shank color, we are seeing feathers/follicles, scales, upper or sub dermal.

Do we know what genes control oral tissue? Or do we know why some black skins lack completely black oral tissue?...There are variations on the tongue - some are partially black etc...
Since this is a fairly new breed & club we are pretty happy with the growing interest and rapid progress we have been making! More to come...

Thanks Jeremy, we really appreciate your input. We are trying to figure out what colors to officially call these birds and have come up with Silver Wheaten or perhaps Salmon, Gold Wheaten or perhaps Red Gold Wheaten, and the obvious Blue Wheaten & Silver Blue Wheaten. HOWEVER...Silver Wheaten...
A sport is an unexpected color that "pops" up. A Splash has 2 copies of the blue gene.
Since this is a month old perhaps you have already found the answer you were looking for...
What I think....
Male wheatens have 2 copies of gold. Salmon males have two copies of silver, but they also have Mh and Ar ? that shows up in the wings & shoulders.
Brian Reeder's observation of the Ap gene on salmons is also interesting.
