Lavender Orpington project ....

Thanks, both of you. I'm interested in breeding later but I have a lot to learn yet. I was supposed to get some Buff Orps but the lady I bought most of my girls from decided to keep hers because she likes them so much. The Australorps I do have are pretty awesome. Soft and so sweet. Since they're a cousin, I guess you could say, I'm looking forward to getting some since I hear Orpingtons are just as nice if not more so.
I'm keeping a small flock for now, trying out various kid friendly breeds and learning how to be a good chicken keeper. Down the line, I may convert to my favorites. We shall see. I have a roo, so I'll be in the mutt business soon ;-)
I am a scientist by trade but rusty on genetics. I loved it in college though so learning about chicken traits is going to be fascinating. :)

All those pages are filled with people who have a variety of birds, but the Orp is the focus(obviously). Lots of husbandry info as well. I have found them to much more informative than most other venues. Genetics is fun, but a lot for me to soak in as I have no prior experience with it. There are basics that are really easy to grasp, you should fly past me in knowledge quickly, haha.

I suggest anyone who likes Orpingtons to join facebook pages dedicated to them, you all will learn a lot really fast. There are top notch breeders from Britain on them that give fantastic insight on genetics and are very helpful. The thing is, they will be honest, so if you just want people to tell you how gorgeous your birds are, they really better be gorgeous.

Nicole, I watched that video and you do have some very nice Lavender, the roo looks to be a Splash roo diluted with Lavender, which is why you are throwing Blues with lacing, because the roo is Splash, it's basically throwing some with way more melanizers than normally found in Lavender. The last link, Imported Orpington group of America, is run by Jeff Horn, he has been breeding Lavenders in with his English Blues for 5 years now, you and him could probably consult each other and help each other with insights.

Here are a few pages,

Orpington Info International   (https://www.facebook.com/groups/orpingtoninfointernational/)

United orpington association  (https://www.facebook.com/groups/unitedorpingtonassociation/)

 Orpington Breeders Association   (https://www.facebook.com/groups/OrpingtonBreedersWorldwide/)

Imported Orpington group of America   (https://www.facebook.com/groups/592142200822495/)

Thank you for the links! I am very interested in lavender orps, but not quite ready to start a flock of them yet. :)

I'm in the US. I just prefer the body type and breeding in other countries as well as the United States. This project is focused on imports though. I'll post new picture of the pullets soon. The males are probably going to be sold.
