I saw a blue copper marans in a show in Inverness FL last year.. definitely don't be put off.
I don't know if you are able to do this, but i just turf mine out into the yard to run around until i can deal with them, they don't go anywhere (it's fenced) and they seem quite happy. but it can be...
Where is Dade City? I have quite a few Roo's, some are gorgeous but are splits, however they are worth thinking about. I also have three that are pure BCM but not as handsome as the splits. Two of the not so handsome came from extremely dark eggs so you get either handsome with not such...
I have same in reverse, both my roos have measly leg feathering but the produce nicely feathered chicks as long as the hens are well leg feathered.
one day i will find a roo nicer than mine (IMHO) with leg feathering but i haven't found him yet.
donna is right that is my #1 handsome roo. He started out as an egg on donnas farm :) i dont mind if you use him its kind of nice to know that my roo and my photography got noticed.
I didn't initially respond because i don't have as much experience as others, but your pic did catch my eye. I always fight having birds with a topline that doesn't have enough angle, so for me she is a keeper. It may be the photo but her head seems a tad small. Of course she will change alot...
at the beginning i bought 10 black copper chicks, some of them grew out all black with purple sheen, and some of them grew out looking like BCM with green sheen. Most were roos anyway so i culled them all . I kinda wish i hadn't now because it does make me wonder if something could be done...

yeah me too... I have some blues with no copper but they are blue coppers. I think one of the issues is how do you know that your blue marans
really is a true blue marans. I would ask to see pictures of the parents and all of their brothers and sisters to make me believe :).. LOL...

no a black tailed buff marans is not a cross of breeds it is a pure marans. this article gives the genome for BTB and some interesting insights. you have to scroll a ways down to get to the btb part http://frenchmaransclubaustralia.yolasite.com/notes-on-breeding.php
Thanks all!! Oh Yeah!!! i will have fun. I have BTB hatching eggs on my wish list and thanks to the awesome people here i might just get some help with it!!! I just have to be careful i think i am getting Chicken ADD (lots of projects).. is there a pill for that???
Here are pics of the Moms and the one at the bottom is the little guy but it's a terrible picture..
he still has some black feathers but he is not feathering like the wheaten looking ones at all..
.
They aren't crosses, I got them from a south Florida breeder who developed them. My goal is to get these guys to breed true and there are a few things i'd like to improve on, but they are already ready made BTBs they just hatch lots of odd looking ones along with the good ones..
I will post...
