Okay folks, I hatched out two Ayam Cemani chicks and it looks like they are both little roos! I can only keep one of them. It also looks like I might have two Icelandic Roos as well out of the last hatch. (It honestly looks like most of my hatch were roos... darn it)
I'm gonna have to rehome the...
I'm in NEA and I may have some eggs for you that you could use, depending on the amount. They would be Phoenix crossed with leghorns, marans, BO's or fayoumis though. Nothing purebred.
Just had to share this and boy, am I ever ticked off. We've take in a couple of horse rescues (We have a wolfdog rescue as well), but for the first time ever, I received rescue chickens. A family member brought 10 white leghorns from his boss who was "thinning his flock". When they got to me...
This is the uber protective mama. She is hiding the babies to prevent any paparazzi (me) from taking their pictures
After much effort and stalking, I was able to get a picture of one of the babies. The other is to the middle right of the photo, but is hiding in the grass.
I have a very sneaky hen. My phoenix hen, Sunset, disappeared about a month ago. I figured she'd been caught by a predator. Well, guess who shows up at feeding time today? The little sneak has two brownish black little babies trailing after her.
She's tried to hatch out babies before and it...
I just had to share this...
My chickens are all free range and my daughter and I were watching one of the new chickens, a young Kraenkoppe, stalk a frog. When she pounced, my daughter burst out: "That's not a chicken, that's a velociraptor!"
Looking at her, yeah, she reminds me of a little...
Not protective enough. The three she hatched out were immediately set upon by the lead roo and pecked to death (and eaten ). Lesson learned. I will have a separate place set up where momma is away from the rest of the flock next time she goes broody.
My daughter's sweet, flighty little Japanese Bantam "Prissy" is about to get another name...
Went out to gather eggs and the little snot was on three. This is her first time ever being broody and with my other two that went broody, they left the nest if I reached under them. Normally if she is...
I have several 4wk old buff orpington chicks. (Most of the males are definitely going to end up in freezer camp) but I'd be willing to trade a pullet or two for a couple of easter eggers or ameracaunas pullets, if someone close to me has any extra available. I'm in the Batesville area.
...to the Salem small animal auction this past Saturday. Bought two cochins that were supposed to be hens, but upon inspection are definitely males. *grumble towards auctioneer*. There is a blue cochin male and a black cochin male. The blue cochin has had it's comb dubbed. I will most likely...
Am so mad at our post office!!! My daughter has been begging for some marans and for her birthday I ordered some marans, bb kraienkoppes, and silver kraienkoppes. The box was marked clearly that they should have been held for pickup. I even called the day before to double check! What do they do...
