Quick question. When is too early of an age to put a young cockerel (he’s 8 weeks old) with full grown hens? My friend wants one that I have extra. No other young birds would go with him, he’d go solo. I can keep him until he’s older, no biggie, I just want him to be safe & ready to go for her...
I love this thread!! You all are always so helpful & I love to learn from every part of it (the good, the bad & the ugly) I don’t think I’ve seen even ONE “ugly” bird on here lol. It’s encouraging to read through & listen & learn:)
Number one after the super low temps a few weeks ago. I never dubbed him, this is just the way he turned out after the points came off. At least I know he HAD a great comb. I hope he passes that on:)
@kfelton0002 I really like FFF too, what about the Roo AND the hen together? Make her smaller & fit her beside him kinda half behind or 1/4 behind. I don’t know, just thinking she is super cute too & you probably will have both for sale? Love the logo & title either way :)
Not trying to hijack or anything but is it bad for a hen(a year & a half old) to lay a fart egg like this? Just wanted an opinion on if something could be wrong with her plumbing. I want to keep an eye on her
Poor guy! Hate it for them. None of my girls with larger combs had any damage at all. Do the Roos not tuck under at night like the hens? And my hubs will help me get the dubbing done:)
@kcrandall Thank you very much. That’s kinda what I figured. I’m such a weenie about doing it, but I will because I know that’s what’s best for him. I want some his chicks this spring for sure!
@kfelton0002 Ok. I just took these at noon today. Should I just let him alone & let it happen on its own or just take care of it & take it off? I’m one who I usually don’t interfere or step in unless absolutely necessary. I don’t have a problem with dubbing him though. Second pic, if I should...
@kfelton0002 Will it bleed a lot when I cut it back? Do you use anything to deaden it before you do? I’ll be watching it very closely. We are getting more extremely cold weather for our area today.
Thank you for filling me in about the frost bite. I’m hoping it will work itself out on its own...
I’m so sad about my BCM Roo!! His perfect comb was hit hard with our arctic blast over a week ago. I don’t know enough about the anatomy, but it looks even worse now than a couple days ago. Will it just scab over & then grow back new flesh or will this permenatley ruin his comb? I mean is he...
@Chooks man Is it not a good idea to use a really big egg as a hatching egg? I mean is it not good like, using too small of an egg is? I have a Marans pullet (almost 7 months old now)laying consistent 78g (2.8oz)eggs & they haven’t been double yolkers so farThank you
