Well Friday night I said I am done with winter and the gear so I am putting it all away, then at the same time planned a trip out of town. We finally got snow on Saturday! Luckily it wasn't enough to stop us from going to Polson, lol. But at least we got a little moisture, it has been...
We have some in our pantry:) We canned beets and pickled beets this year:) Although its really a ton of work, I preserve out of necessity not because I enjoy it rotfl!
Yep she is laying in the chicken nest box. At first I dug around in their nest box only finding 2 eggs, I was worried the 3rd was buried somewhere in the coop because they cover the eggs. Then I noticed a rather large egg in the nest box, lol. Azriel, and I thought I was nuts for hatching...
My EE must have heard me complaining about her not laying because she layed the past 2 days rotfl! And my duck has been getting in one of the lower nest boxes, I have no idea how she is doing it though, lol!
I have lost several despite having 2 heat lamps in my coop. Mostly its when they use the nest baskets on the wall farthest from the lights. We had 44mph winds last night and I am guessing even with the heat lamp my waterers will be frozen. Grrrr and brrrr. And we still have no snow, we had a...
It is interesting with the duck eggs, because they are kept with my chickens and on the same feed I don't think the eggs taste different at all they are just much larger.
I have 2 ee's that of course the kids are attached too. They are good layers in the summer but at the first sign of cold they quit....I will have to let you you know the next time we get to Butte and I will bring some duck eggs.
I hear ya on the laying! But now I have so many laying I can't keep up with the eggs. Especially since I am getting 3 duck eggs a day in addition to 10 or so chicken eggs. Reminds me I need to go order some cartons for my duck eggs, they are too large for anything I have.
They are being bred for good laying and dual purpose birds. I actually won the eggs from Laree's blog, and was very excited because I really love the look of the swedish flower hens but can't afford them, so this is a good alternative! It will be a bit of an experiment for us but I am excited...
And I used Murray McMurray last spring and all of them arrived alive and I only lost 1 later on but I don't think it had anything to do with the hatchery. I am hatching out a dozen Aloha eggs so I probably am not ordering any chicks though:)
Hi everyone! Seems like forever since I was on here! With hubby away at school I just haven't had the time but he gets to take some of his classes at the college here next semester so at least I don't have to be a single mom;) Chickens are doing great, my ducks are now laying as well and the...
Anyone need some baby roosters. Out of the 9 babies our broody has at least 5 are roo's. Ughh at a month old its painfully obvious! What am I going to do with these guys, they are bantams partridge cochin mama and mottled cochin daddy. I already have way more roosters than I need! I am not...
Eventually we might have enough eggs to share but we are just getting enough right now for us and my parents. Hopefully the other girls step it up soon and get laying.
Entry for the fair is $5 per person highschool age and older for parking, its weird. You can park outside and walk in though then I think you can avoid the fee. The carnival is 20 for a wristband or at least thats what the prices were tonight. I don't know if they will jack up the rates for...
Oh my that is weird Karla, the number of posts we both have shown on both those last 2 post was the same,428. Well this will bump mine up, but it was funny anyhow!
We will be around the fair most of Saturday I think. I sold a hen who is going to her new owner at the fair on Saturday. Hannah has 3 hens in the poultry building too so we might see you around. Anyhow enjoy! Let me know if you need directions to the fairgrounds.

That is devastating to hear about your BF! They will be in our thoughts and prayers. Our fair in Dillon is this week and my daughter will be bringing 3 of our hens to show. We are not in 4-h this year just the open class. We now have 2 EE's laying, and a light brahma joined the...
