3 generations in from my original stock of BBS Ameraucanas.....it appears I have lavender genes in there.
I've got a couple chicks like this now. Initially I thought they were faded out blues or poor splashes, now I'm thinking they are lavs and one of my original blues was split to lav...
I lost track of my hatch dates due to a pc problem....
Can anyone tell me what day the temp spike is on? I just had it one day last week. Trying to hammer out when my eggs will hatch....
...dark and I can't see into them, save for a little veining on the edges, so I'm guessing it was at least 2 weeks....
I have been hatching a *lot* of eggs lately, and have simultaneous batches running- I started out with a 2 week interval then had fertility problems due to feed issues, so...
I am planning to start hatching some duck eggs soon and have split my ducks into breeding groups. I haven't seen any of the drakes mounting the hens though. This is my first time breeding ducks.
I have kept muscovies but never bred them- I saw the male mount the female, oh at least once an...
I *need* a utility breed of chicken that is cold hardy, lightweight, has superior feed conversions, lays brown eggs like its nobody's business and is autosexing.
I keep going over and over breeds of chickens, trying to find something like this out there....the closest thing I have found is the...
I bought nearly 30 day old ducks from a breeder in July. They are mostly khaki X silver appleyard. She threw in a couple of the same, of pure breed appleyard and khaki. She also mentioned, that she felt that a few of them may be magpies, as she couldn't tell the day olds apart from the cross...
We have a variety of ducks that we have been raising for an egg flock. Some were purchased as khaki X silver appleyard and some were purchased as hatching eggs from a mixed flock of several runner types, khakis and welsh harlequins. We have a few very distinctive looking drakes-are these guys a...
Ok....So, we went and aquired a whack of ducklings to develop a layer flock for next year. This is a little project of mine and my 10 year son's. He is CallDuckKid on here. I think we have around 50 of them. Now they are really starting to plow through the feed and we are thinking of...
I am raising meat pekins for the third year. For the first 2 years we had incredible success, raising no more than 25 at at a time. We never lost any. This year, we went all out and I got several orders from restaurants.
I started with 156 last Wednesday, and now I have lost 10. I can see...
Hello,
I would like to plumb several bell waterers onto a 65g reservoir. So far I have only ever used a 5g pail, and 2 5g pails connected together. Can anyone tell me if the 65 g barrel will create too much pressure and cause the bells to leak? If so how do I reduce the pressure?
Thanks...
Our muscovy got severe frostbite on one foot. The other seems to be healing. The foot in question is beginning to swell at the ankle area. The toes are still coloured ok but the webbing is part grayed. Can I give him a penicilian injection? We have propen LA on hand-broad spectrum...
I'm using a hovabator still air for the first time. I have 2 eggs out of 46 which have just pipped. It has been in lockdown for 3.5 days already; they are hatching late, if at all, due to chilling. I don't have a hygrometer, am just using the recommended method of filling the troughs with...
Our prized Muscovy drake appears to have a frozen foot. The toes are curled upwards and it seems he can't use them, he is walking strangely. The female seems fine. I brought them both inside to let them warm up and to monitor them. my son noticed something was wrong with his foot yesterday...
My first hatch is currently under 'lock down'. This is day 21, though we started the eggs at 10:30 pm on day 1, so its sort of still day 20. Last night the temp reached -30C (-22F) outside, and it was all we could do to keep our old farm house warm. The bator dropped to 96F. I'm still trying...
So, its my first time with my hovabator still air, and I did what the instructions say not to do- I totally loaded it with 64 eggs. I guess its the greed in my human nature taking over.
I thought I'd be removing some when I candled, but it took me a bit to figure out a candler, and once I...
We're looking to upgrade our water supply for our poultry to an automatic system.
We have quite a few bell waterers already, which we run off buckets (see my other post!).
We'd like to stop filling the buckets...I'm not sure if we need to use a pressure reducer, or what sort of fittings we...
Anyone know of a good online source for these? I thought cutler supply had them, but they don't.
I'm looking for the barbed fittings with rubber gaskets that you can attach to a bucket, and then slide the water hoses for the bells onto the barbed part of the fitting.
I'm done with drilling a...
Who else is in Ontario? I swear I thought maybe one of the Mods was at some point (a few years back perhaps?)
I'm looking for someone who can sell me some hatching barred rock eggs, from a solid laying (not showing) flock.
Heather=^..^=
Hi There.
We're in a suddenly desperate situation with our laying flock on our farm, and any help and advice is much appreciated.
We have 59 laying hens, most of them are 1 YO BSL, RIR, and CR-X. 14 are 1.5 YO RSL, and there is a handful of marans, ameraucanas, 1 YO and 5 Heritage hens which...
We are getting 6 Orlopp Bronze Turkeys, 4 pekin ducks and 4 muscovy ducks in two days, all day olds.
They'll all be free ranging during the day and locked up in a stall in the barn at night for safety.
Can I brood them all together, or should I brood the ducks separate from the Turkeys?
