I was so excited when I first found BackYard Chickens.....sounded like a great place to learn and "talk" with others who were interested in the same things.
Being new to poultry there are many things I need help with, and have posted on this forum a couple times....usually after time spent...
Noticed Scarlett (2 yr old sweet hen) has been walking slowly for the past couple weeks. Been tied up with a death in the family and just got time to pick her up last night for a once over. Back toe on her left foot seems to be broken - it points up, is stiff, partially black (legs/feet tan)...
Love them chickens!
I've always been the odd man (woman) out.....never did go with the flow. So growing up in a big city, it was natural that I'd dream of living in the country instead of hanging out at the mall. Can't say I always wanted chickens, but you know how one thing leads to...
Hey Lemon - someone may chime in with better info - but just in case, I'd suggest you check out some of the other threads for more immediate help.
There is one for emergencies that seems like it would be better monitored this this thread!
Good luck with trying to get help for some of God's critters!
Brown recluse info y'all!
Little buggers are not only nasty, but they're one of the critters that can change sex! So if you get rid of all but 2 females, one will have the operation and they'll make more baby spiders.
The incidence of 'recurrance' with a b.r. bite is quite high in spite of...
Tracyree - I second Troyerchick on the sand! A couple inches of sand will last for months, even scooping the poop every day. Get the builders sand, not play sand, as it has some larger pieces mixed it.....easier to work with plus they can peck at it for grit. Once it got cold this winter I...
And welcome to AmenFarm!
Great peoples here! I remember the months leading up to getting my first girls........whoa! Have fun!
Course, it'll get really good once they touch down at your place. Have that camera ready!
Matlock, I too, am praying for your wife (and you and the kiddo's who must eat your cooking for awhile! lol!). Wondering how she is feeling today! Blessings, to you all!
Gosh, Tish - they are beautiful! Not sure I'd of recognized some of those as chickens, but then I am certainly no poultry expert. They look far too cute. Those birdies could do for chickens what Teddy did for bears.
Now I know the seniors are going to love whatever you and the Showgirls...
Matlock, those are great pics. I've never incubated so seeing this is really cool! Bet the kiddo's love that part, too. What a great way to explain Creation to them!!!
Hope you all have fun tomorrow. I'm teaching a Wilderness First Aid class ~ started it 2 weeks ago, but there was such good...
Sure wish we had known that chickens were so fun when my kids were little. They would have loved them (then) - now my son's a big tough military man and my daughter is too busy jumping out of airplanes to slow down and enjoy a chick.
I now have 8 girls. The Red Star I got from Anne is the...
I was just thinking how much I miss this place (haven't been able to get on here lately) so I looked over the last few days........ imagine getting hit with all those cute/cuddlie pics all at once! Warning, Will Robinson, Warning!
Think I'm ok now. But all those babies!!! Ohhhhhhhhh
Have...
I like the idea of a watering system. Maybe I could add that to the budget sometime in the future! CityGirl, I've seen the pics of your flowers and I can see why you'd want to keep them alive, they're lovely.
Tracyree, I want your carpenter! Somebody done good! That's the kinda person you...
Hey y'all - sand works great! My coop originally was 4x4 with 5 hens - nest boxes on the side, using straw there. I have 2 old girls who prefer sleeping in the next boxes and I let them, as it only takes an extra 30 seconds to scoop the poops every morning. All told, I spend about 60 seconds...
