I have to re-home my chickens--long story--zoning.... :-( I have two roosters (blue) and five hens (two blue, three black). I have raised these guys from eggs, from 3 different good breeders. Disease free and very healthy. Two of the hens are currently laying, another hen is broody on eggs...
Would like to share pictures of my gorgeous blue and black bantam orpingtons. (pics taken in December). I currently have blue two roosters, two months apart in age, ranging from 8-10 months old right now. I already culled several roosters and kept these two. I also have two 9 month old pullets...
I hatched out 3 bantam EE's. I think I know the sex on two of them, but not sure on the white one.
8 1/2 weeks old in the shots where I'm holding the one in question:
9 weeks old exactly in these photos.
Roo on left? He acts like a Roo with the confirmed Roos in the tractor. pullet in...
Not sure if I am posting this in the right section...it's kinda a mix between three forum topics....
I just hatched a one-eyed chick from a bunch of mixbreed chicken eggs from someone on this forum.
There's one normal eye, and one totally missing eye (no eye socket). THe chick's beak is...
Just found tapeworms in my chicken's stool. In one pile there was quite a lot. I know it's tapeworms because I'm a vet tech and they seem very similar to canine and feline tapeworms, just a bit smaller. They look exactly like the photo this person posted...
I went to the Stockton show and really want some of these now.
I would prefer larger quantities than 6 eggs, if possible. Would like to get them sometime this Spring, it's okay if I have to be put on a wait list.
Please let me know what you have, how much you want for the eggs, and hopefully...
These are from eggs I hatched myself. The black cochins and Serama are from marie_martin and the golden laced are from a e-bay seller.
My favorite The one I know is a girl for sure. She is as sweet as she is pretty.
All four black cochins. I have two boys for sure, one girl, and one unknown...
Here are my chickens!
Australorp, 21 weeks old. Was the ugliest as a chick, now has the prettiest feathers!
My Buff Orpington. 20 weeks old. Always the first to run to see me. She really likes treats. The most talkative too.
My Rooster, Light Brahma, which I gave away last week. He...
Our rooster is about 20 weeks old, and starting to test the waters. It's been a couple weeks since he started challenging the dogs. Today, when I let them out of the run, he came really close to me and was acting very dominant. He was staring at my shoes (I was wearing Crocs, I swear I read on...
So one of my pet chickens is a Roo, of course my favorite. I live in the city so I can't have a rooster crowing...
He just turned 11 weeks old, and is soooo sweet. I couldn't even tell he was a rooster by behavior, but when I posted pics here everyone said he was a Roo...and I think they are...
I heard about this movie several months ago. And then I saw the trailer for the movie last week when I went to see Wall-e. If you haven't see the trailer, google to find it. Or go here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/beverlyhillschihuahua/index.html
Yeah, it's already happened to...
I have a light brahma who I posted about last week in the forum "what gender is this?" It was a toss up if it was a roo or hen...
Anyways, today I witnessed some odd, first time behavior. The light brahma was half way up the coop ladder, and my Buff girl was at the food dish. THe light...
Okay, I have a 5 week old light brahma that was bought as a pullet. It has feathered out slower than my other light brahma, and although they weighed the same at 2 1/2 weeks old, it looks bigger now.
It's more confident than my australorp and BO, but just as much as my other light brahma...
I have two brahmas that are very close to 4 weeks old. They are behind in developing (I know they mature slower)compared my other breeds, who are getting their combs and have more real feathers.
At what age do brahmas start develop physical sex characteristics? Basically, if you have raised...
I am currently building my ladder that goes from the ground to the coop, 2 feet up, ladder is 5 feet long. I am building it "ladder style" ie, no plywood plank.
How far apart should each rung be for standard large breeds?
Got them yesterday. They are so cute! It's easy to take their picture seperate but when they are together they like to move and I couldn't get a perfect group shot I think the australop is a week older. The others were hatched wed or tues.
BO pullet
LB 1 pullet
LB 2 pullet
Australop...
Sorry, newbie question here. I have searched the forums already and couldn't find the answer.
Should the feeder and waterer be in the run or in the coop? I will have a section of the run covered too. I'm only going to have 4 chickens...the coop is 4x4 so I'm concerned about taking up too much...
So I starting thinking that the vent I've used for my greenhouse the last several years might work really well for a chicken coop for automatic venting in hot weather.
There is wax inside the cylinder that expands and contracts, which opens the vent. The warmer it gets, the more it opens. No...
I'm going to go pick out my first chicks (pullets only) in a couple weeks. I live in the suburbs so I'm trying to avoid anything too noisy.
I was wondering if anyone has noticed a correlation between noisy chicks turning into noisy hens. Will it help me if I avoid picking out the talkers or...
