Well have to say that for almost 2 years now all has been going great. This was up until about a month ago when I left home and left the responsibility of the chickens to my wife. When I came home after a week I noticed that she never went to the coop and there were a TON of eggs in there. Sure...
So my girlfriend went out this morning to get the eggs, and when she came back in she said" I think the chicken peed on the egg and nest box. There were 3 eggs in the box but only one had the "Yellowish" Substance on top of the egg and in the vacinity of it in the bedding of the box.
Ok so I...
So this is a really new problem, 3 days ago I forgot to put the little block infront of the pen door and it blew closed while I was at work and ended up locking them out of the pen and coop for a couple night time hours. I found them ontop of the pen all huddled together. Now the past 2 nights...
So im wondering if anyone has ever experimented with heated roosting pole?
Its starting to get a bit colder and aside from placing a heat light in the coop I was thinking maybe I could heat a roosting pole or something.
Any ideas?
nevermind she came out.. Now the wierd thing is the egg.. For the last 2 days she has been laying adarker than usual egg that has reddishbrown speckles all over it.. the first one had them just at the tip. This egg has it all over.. Anything wrong with that?
Im wondering if anyone with a small group of chickens breeds crickets for them.. Its soo funny watching them chase the crickets around the yard.. The down side is they can easily eat 50 crickets in a mater if minutes and those 50 crickets cost half as much as their 20lb bag of feed.. a little...
I have a 1 /12 yo mini pin that has discovered where Eggs come from and He loves them. Ive thought long and hard on a solution but im at a loss.
There is no possible way that I can make the door to the coop too small for him to get into. The chickens stand taller than him
I have thought about...
Ok so for some time now Its been know that our mini pin has been stealing eggs. He normally gets them on the weekends when we let them free range from the early hours of the morning. Othwerwise during the week the chickens are let out at lunch and have laid by then so I get them.
Just yesterday...
SO its getting colder here in CA (believe it or not) and soon I think its going to start dipping low enough that the water might start freezing. So I want to add some light but im wondering about how much of a heat lamp I will need.
The dimentions of the coop are 4x5x4, basically a cube.
How...
It doesnt seem like my chickens like me taking their eggs.. They are not sitting on them and they are letting me take them without any troubles , instead they are pecking at me whenever i pet them now, and just today our Blacksex somewhat ran at my wife and either tried to attack her or jump for...
Ok so first egg today, 1 of 4 is doing it.. The only problem is that all the straw was kicked out of the laying box this morning, a somewhat circle was formed down to the wood of the box, the golfball was pushed aside.
Now I come home at lunch and the golfball is out of the box and on the...
Ok so ive seen alot of people say that you can tell if your chickens close to laying or not by checking its vent.. Where the heck is it? All I see is a bunch of feathers, and I dont really want to poke my finger around.. Any help with this? A diagram link would be great.. Kinda wierd, maybe...
So I just noticed the Red in the picture last night was almost like bullying the black one. It was wierd because this was the first time I had seen it.. Normally when they all come out of the run they do like this wild chicken run all through the backyard, wings out flpping its funny, and...

I have 4 birds 2 rir's 1 blacksex and 1 ?? Im thinking one of the RIR's is a Rooster, my question though is about crowing.. All 4 of the chickens are real chatty, always making noise, but I noticed one is alot louder than the others.. It doest sound like crowing, or a typical cokadoodledoo...
