**36 hour sale, ships Monday AM**
As you may have read in this months Backyard Poultry, the Auburn Java is being resurrected using hidden gene pools in Black Java populations. I had hoped to be a part of this process, but am moving and will have to give up my chickens!
I'd like to make sure...
First generation Olive Egger hatching eggs. You will receive beautiful blue eggs laid by Easter Egger hens covered by a Black Copper Marans rooster. The chicks will hatch out with beards, muffs, pea combs and feathered legs. All pullets will grow to lay beautiful deep olive green colored eggs...
Eggs from my flock of Black Copper Marans. The picture above is the rooster for this flock. They are all feather legged, with good coloring. I love the look of our rooster! The hens lay nice, medium dark eggs, about 2 every 3 days (per hen).
A few chicks have hatched out mossy, so you MAY...
Yesterday, I discovered that some apples my girls had picked from our apple tree had gone bad. Not surprising, since we don't spray and many had worm holes. Not being one to like my food squishy or full of maggots, I chucked them into the compost bin.
I went up tonight with bits of things...
I've been listening to my growing keets, now 4 months old, and I swear I hear at least one of them making the two syllable call. The trouble is, I can't tell which one! And they all look about the same as far as wattle development goes.
So, what do you think? Are they all girls? All boys...

My three keets have been living in a 4x8 pen inside the layer chicken run for the past six weeks (they are 9 weeks old). The chickens free range during the day, with the door to their run open.
The chickens have now learned how to tunnel under neath the pen to get in and eat the guinea food...

So..... One hen went broody. After a few days I figured, OK, let her have some eggs. So she's sitting on some olive egger eggs. Then hen number two thought it looked like a good idea. And now there are THREE!!!
I don't know whether to or !
The problem is, they are now occupying all...
My easter egger girls have a new Black Copper Marans cockerel - and he is taking his job seriously! These eggs will hatch out first generation olive eggers - all pullets should be pea combed and lay olive eggs.
Chicks should be muffed and bearded, with feathered legs, like the one below.
I...
We like to give the keets new "toys" to play with every now and again. This week, in addition to a big branch to climb on, my daughter put a small oak branch with a bunch of leaves in the brooder box.
For the first few days, the keets ignored the oak branch and its leaves. However, now that...
I got two Polish chicks this spring. I was thinking white eggs would be a nice change, and the kids might enjoy them. We haven't gotten to eggs yet, but my daughters LOVE them.
My girls are often carrying these birds around the yard. I've been telling them, "make sure you bring them back...
So I've been trolling the web for information on keets, and came upon a discussion of teddy bear keets. To me, they just look like pied keets. Anyone know what the difference is? Do they feather out differently?
I've never had keets before - and they are so cute! They peep even louder than chicks, I think - the three of them sound almost like a chorus of spring peeper frogs!
There's a lavender, a pearl, and a pied:
Aren't they adorable?
Hi! I've just brought home three new keets. They were calm, and even slept some, in the travel box. Now that I've got them in the brooder, they are zooming around like crazy things!
The brooder is 4 x 4 ft, with a heat lamp in the center. Under the lamp, it's 96 F, but it is cooler in the...
I have a GLW hen, Zee, from hatchery stock. She turned one this February, and began her first molt last month. Her flockmates have grown back beautiful new feathers - but not Zee.
Her feathers don't have barbs all the way along the shaft - they are feathered either only on one side or only...
I have 10 chicks in the brooder. They only range in age from 8 to 10 weeks, however, some are MUCH larger than the others. My Marans cockerel is easily almost as large as my EE hens, while the two Polish chicks are still quite small by comparison.
Right now, I've got them in the brooder box...
