    Hatching Red Sex-linked

What happens when a red sex linked rooster mates with a red sex linked hen? What are those chicks like? Are they just like the parents or are the their own thing? Are you able to tell the sex by the color like their parents??

    Gender confused hen...

So my burbon red female hen came up to me yesterday, puffed out her feathers, spread her tail feathers, bent her head, basically displayed for me, and then started to make odd noises that hens do not make as if she was trying to gobble. This went on for a while, she walked around me a bit. I've...

    Raccoon or Fox?

I recently lost all of my bantam chickens. All of them, and im pretty upset. There is a fox den with foxes in it pretty close to the house but the live traps caught two young raccoons. How old is too old to eat turkey?

Not that i would eat my two turkeys, but they are a year old now and my dad was curious. As i told him already, they aren't eating turkeys, they are pet turkeys. Point is, i know after a certain amount of time they arent good for eating, what age is that?

    pointy side up or down.....?

I just got confused, a book said to store eggs for hatching pointy side up, but i thought it was pointy side down? Which is it or doesn't it matter? The air is in the round part of the egg i thought.

Help with incubation for a class project

I had some questions on how to hatch some chicks for a class room. I'm not the teacher but it was already attempted and none of the 24 eggs hatched. Someone said they werent fertilized, they had been shipped to the teacher so that may have had something to do with it also. I told the teacher...

    Forgotten coop from the past...

While walking through the woods behind the old homestead, now used by no one, i came across the old chicken coop. This coop was built by my great grandfather. My dad said 50 years ago, when he was 12, it was in pretty good shape. As you can see now, much of it has fallen down, yet a good part of...

    chickens prefer red colors?

I have this book called, "the field guide to chickens" and in it, it said a study showed chickens prefer the color red. It makes sense i guess, a rooster's comb is to attract the hen and they are red. Do you think this is why so many chicken coops are red or is it a coincidence?
