Can't get my humidity up, and they are piping. HELP!

This is my first time incubating. I'm using a Hova-Bator. I set 17 eggs, 1 ended up being not fertile...the other 16 had movement on lock down day (which was Monday). Started hearing little cheeps from inside the eggs last night. This morning half of them have a little hole pecked, still hearing...

New to hatching...Hova-Bator 1583. Crash course needed.

Hi guys! I have been away from this board for a while, been mostly on the FB version. We started out with wanting 3 chickens a year ago. Since then our 3 grew in a big way, I now have about 20 chickens, a house on 10 acres and a horse, pigs, rabbits and goats. Chicken math worked hard and fast...

Can anyone tell me if I have a boy or girl?

Yay almost ready to live outside!

We have 7 chicks that are now 7 and 8 weeks old...I am so ready to give them the boot outside LOL! We got their coop and run almost done, they will also be able to free range from time to time. The run is 5 1/2' X 14'...they seem to love the space when they are out in the day time.

What outside temps are OK for 5 and 6 weeks olds?

The last couple of weeks have been beautiful here in Beaverton, OR. We had been letting the babies out for an hour or so each day for the last 10 days or so, they love it so much. My hubby built them a little play-pen type run two days ago and they have been out from about noon to 7pm. I love...

    Chick and broken blood feathers.

I'm guessing this is not too big of a deal, but I am new to chickens and want to be sure I am handling it correctly. My 4 week old Salmon Faverolle broke a blood feather on her foot a few days ago. I just washed it then sprayed a little Blue-Kote on it. Now today I see she has broken one on her...

When can you tell gender on a Salmon Faverolle? Pics

This is Elsa, she is almost 4 weeks old. The darker, gray-ish, feathers are worrying me. Is my Elsa a princess or should we change his name to Charming?

What do you use to bandage a neck?

One of my 3 1/2 week olds has scratched the back of her neck bald and raw. I have dusted her with "Garden and Poultry Dust" and been spraying the wound with "Blue-Kote". I have not seen any bugs, they are still in the house on paper towels. She is still scratching, I tried to put the cut off top...

Man these chicks are giving me a run for my money.

We have 7 chicks, 5 of them are 4 weeks and 2 are 3 weeks old. Since getting them I have dealt with 1 respiratory thing...happily resolved, 1 bout of cocci...happily resolved, 1 leg issue...not happily resolved :( .... and now 1 chick is scratching the back of her neck bald. Man they better be...

3 week old scratching back of neck bare and raw.

I have a 3 week old welsummer in a brooder with one other chick (salmon faverolle). Yesterday I noticed a bald spot on the back of her neck...it is not a bleeding wound yet, but it did look red and a bit irritated. I have been trying to watch and make sure it was not the roommate plucking her...

Possible broken leg on 4 week old chick. Video

Hi guys. Still dealing with my "drunk walker"...I took a couple short videos and showed some people who have chickens...they think a leg could be broken. She is still walking on it...though quite unsteady, still eating and drinking. Is there anything to be done about a broken leg? I don't see...

Does even small specks of blood mean cocci?

Does even small specks of blood mean cocci? Can my girl that is walking like she is drunk be fighting cocci? I haven't seen any specks of blood from her, but a couple others I have. They were treated with Sulmet Feb 10-15th, they seemed fine until the drunk walking started yesterday...I did...

4 week old all of a sudden has issues walking.

Hi, please help! I have a 4 week old chick that I just noticed is having some difficulty walking, her legs seem weak, she is walking a bit uncoordinated and when she tries to move to fast her legs splay out from under her. Any ideas what could be going on here, and what I can do to help her? She...

If they find it...can they eat it?

It has been unusually beautiful here the last few days, so I have taken my 3 week olds out in the yard for some exploration. Yesterday they found a caterpillar and a small slug, I took both away...after a game of chick football LOL. Should I allow them to eat what they find, if not yet, when...

My almost 3 week olds got to play in the yard today. Pics!

It was sunny, 48 degrees and beautiful today. I decided to take my older 5 chicks out for a little field trip. They will be 3 weeks in a couple days, and we only spent 5-10 min out side. They had a good time!

Puffy crop on 2 week old chick.

Today is day 4 of one of my chicks acting off, though the first day I didn't notice it. She has been lethargic, standing as much as possible, hunched over and puffed up, eating and drinking a little, not into normal chick activities, watery poops. Today I started Cocci treatment. I just did a...

    Chick acting off.

For those that remember my problem breather, Belle the EE, she is doing great...seems to be totally over whatever was going on. Now I have another one acting off for the last day - day and a half. Anna, my Barnevelder, is standing around a lot, spending time apart from the group and seems...

    Really liquid poops.

I've got someone in my brooder who has very runny poop...looks like watery mud to a sludgy mud in color and consistency. They are on Save A Chick electrolytes and probiotics, and have been for over a week. Their food is medicated chick starter, they are almost 2 weeks old. Is there anything I...

    Introducing chicks to each other.

My original 4 girls have been with me for 1 week. Today I went back to the feed store I got them from and got one more that was in their original shipment. So they were together, then I took 4 of them away, and now a week later I am adding one more of that group back in. I thought the intro...
