I have a blue spangled spitzhauben cockerel who went to rood 2 night ago just fine. Yesterday morning his head was twisted all strange. He is 1 in a flock of 80 and he is the only one having problems. My flock gets an all flock grower, free choice calcium, corn and free range all day. What is...
Looks like time to start making plans for spring...
Would May 6th or May 20th be more convenient for yall? Either works for us and our farm schedule.

My chicks hatched 4 days late so I'm sure that contributes to the problem. I have one baby who is doing good other than her foot is all curled up. She gets around ok but can't open her foot. I also have a baby who looks like she is doing the splits. One leg out to either side. If I move her to...
I have 18 hens just over a year old. I get between 13 and 18 eggs a day, have been for many months. However for the last week I have been getting 1 egg white with no yolk and no shell. The next day it's 1 yolk no shell no white. Back and fourth. The get an all flock grower with oyster shell on...
Well after keeping my original 21 alive for a year my husband bought me my first incubator. I'm so crazy excited as well as beyond inexperienced. Feel free to drop all your advice off on this thread, I need all the help I can get.
I'm setting 40 eggs in my little giant styrobator as soon as...
That is from a 7 month old white leghorn who has been laying for 3 months. On visual inspection of her I see no vent damage and no blood on hiney feathers. On hands on inspection she feels ok, nothing out of whack compared to her 4 sisters. Watching her all day out free ranging she is moving...
I'm not sure I'm setting this up correctly but here goes nothing. I have contacted several of you about a gathering at my home in May. This page is where I would like for plans to be made. Please feel free to give ideas .

So I made a bit to much pumpkin pie, well 2 too many. Is it safe for the chickens to eat the extra as long as I don't give it all at once? There are 20 birds all standard breed. I hate to toss them but the kids (and me) are not happy with the pies. I baked my pumpkin this year and we don't like...
I'm new to the chicken world but I do know I don't want hatchery stock and I can't travel 3 states away to pick up. I also know I want pure unadulterated old world breeds. I want cold hardy good laying and flavorful. Please someone point me in the proper direction.
Hey all. Just looking for fellow flock owners in my area. I'm 15 minutes from binghamton. I'm fairly new to the chicken world. I have 18 pullets and 2 cockerels. The girls just started laying about a month ago. I would LOVE to have someone close by to share my excitement with.
There is a thread already about "how many eggs did you get today" . So this one is for us "new kids". I have 18 pullets, 8 at laying age the other 10 are still a month or so out. Today I got my very first 2 eggs. So let's get going on how long from first lay until all our pullets start.
I see everywhere I look not to feed more than 10% snacks/treats to the chickens, however, my girls all free range all day. Making 95% of their diet bugs and vegetation. They do fill their selves with feed at bed time though. They all seem healthy and happy so do I need to change to free...
I have 8 RIR that are 20 weeks old. Currently no one is laying, however, 3 of my red feathered girls have started making what sounds like a dove sound. Its a beautiful little cooing . These are my first chickens so I'm a bit lost.
So I'm clueless to how they will look but very soon I hope to be adding 2 spitzhauben Roos to my flock of 8 RIR 5 WL and 5 BA. does anyone have a clue as to what I might end up with come spring when I do a hatch? The girls are all healthy and big as well as are the Roos. Spring will be my first...
We started a flock this year and as of now it contains 18 chickens. Don't get me wrong they taste good and my kids love eggs, however I like variety in my freezer. Is there a good or bad match for chickens or do I need a separate housing system?
