leaving not a trace or feather

We've had fox and opossums, both leave a mess, oh and a neighbor dog. What can carry off a duck and leave absolutely not one feather behind? I have searched out to about a 300 foot radius, and not a feather (more tomorrow, truck drivers wife and the kids were done with me being out 'gone' and...

    I miss my ducks :(

The other morning (early, right before the sun comes up), something came and took 9 of my ducks, leaving three, They are still so scared they won't come out from under the chicken house (they usually slept there, or in the chicken house, I let them out when I let the dog out, came back in and...

Hen seems to be broody, in November!

Has anyone had a hen go broody in November and go on to actually have chicks live? She is a pullet about 7 months old. It would be neat if she hatched them, our last broody had her eggs taken by an opossum a few days before they were to hatch, just u sure of the cold and chicks!

Not sure about a few of these!

First is two barred chicks together, the one on the right is a barred rock pullet, or suppose to be, I don't really know what the one of the left is. I had posted pictures of the left one when I first got them and people seemed to think black sexlink, but it seems he doesn't have much comb yet...

first time incubating and a few questions

I put the eggs in last night at 10 pm, so would that make yesterday day 1 or today? Mostly I just want to make sure I lock it down on the correct day. If I count yesterday as day one June 1st is lock down with hatching on the 4th, I also thought since it was so late, I'd just use today as day...

when can you tell if an EE is a boy?

When can you start to tell, I know they have the pea comb, and I have been reading about seeing three lines as a tell tell sign, when does that pop up? I have five little EE's, between 2 and 3 weeks old. There combs are more noticable, and I can see the three lines, but I don't know if it's...

Wondering what 'rainbow' layer this is!

Last year, and this year, I got some chicks from Farm and Home, they were rainbow layers, I thought that meant they'd lay like blue/green eggs, but, since starting to read here everyday, I know that's not the case. Of course, none of them last year laid blue/green, but I just thought I got a...

    Wondering about this EE?

This one is suppose to be an Easter Egger, but doesn't have the dark legs. Everytime I get a group of chicks, I always end up with one that's a rooster, and this time I'm kind of hopeful since we have no rooster right now, but not really sure. They are 8/ 8.5 weeks old. Thanks for thoughts on...

Fox killed all my chickens, in one night!

We have been trying to catch this thing for over a year, it has actually even been shot with a shotgun (just got the back end) and he/she came back last night and outwitted our latch, took each one. I think it might be a she as someone said they saw one with pups (or are they kits??), I think...

Hi, we have 16 chicks that are between 4 and 6 weeks old (all bought at the same time). Just today I have noticed that they have started pecking. Specifically the dark colored ones (Rhode Island reds and Astrolorps) are pecking the Cornish crosses. They CC have a few bloody spots on them...
