So happy, my six little girls, are still laying pretty consistently, 2-5 eggs each day. And usually 5 everyother day... so proud of them since it gets dark at noon!! (well ~ not quite)
Today we let our chickens visit the garden for the first time, while the kids and I picked pumpkins before frost this weekend. On the way to the garden, I noticed a large bird, hawk like, flying overhead. We let the girls out for more than an hour. I was catching chickens, and my 9 year old...
I have 6 pullets that I have had for 1 month. 4 were born in Feb & 2 were born in March, I am just starting to get 2 eggs per day, up from one every other day, then, one each day. One of my buff orpington's likes to lay her eggs under the poo board, so we decided to move the nest boxes under...
I have read a few different things. I have read, "Yes it is bad". Or I read, "Sometimes they sneeze." I have a black australorp that was hatched in March. I just brought the birds home less than two weeks ago. I noticed about a week ago that this one pullet seems to sneeze, often enough my...
I just asked my nine year old what we should have for supper and he thought about it for a couple minutes. And he said, "What can we have that the chickens can have too?" I am glad we have the opportunity to have chickens... my kids love it!!
I searched and didn't come up with anything. Has anybody fed peanut butter to thier chickens... you know your kids left over sandwiches (the crusty part) Just wondering if its safe for my girls. Thanks!!

Oh, When will I see an egg? That is what my kids are asking me. As I understand, when you move chickens from a home to a new home they sometimes do a little egg strike? Just tonight I was reading about the combs and colors. Some of mine are redder than others. I have a couple that spend...
I seen it was starting to storm, wasn't raining, just lightning. I thought I should go shut the girls up for the night. Five of the six hens were in the coop, the other one, I couldn't find right away. The kids kept saying it was under the ladder. I looked under the ladder, I seen no Buff...
