To zuzuluna (sp?), that is an awesome picture! I love the little polish chick. And your picture makes her look like a little old man. Thanks for the chuckle.

So after increasing my flock with quality birds, my husband and I are going all the way w/ the farm. We're buying a small herd of alpacas as well. So here's the issue. We're having trouble with a name for the farm. We live at the top of a hill on a small road with no really good landscape...
I've an opportunity to start an alpaca herd. Good quality and lines. I've raised goats in the past but not alpaca. Can anyone tell me about their personal experiences with alpaca? Particularly the good and bad traits.

Julie
I have some beautiful blue rumpless Araucanas - just started laying - two hens and one roo. Unfortunately no tufting. I really want to include some tufting in my gene pool. That being said, I'm interested in either a hen or a roo, preferably rumpless.
Please PM if you have one for sale.
I have to share a photo of my gorgeous tom. Turkeys are truly amazing animals and I'm totally proud of this big boy.
Thanks for letting me gloat.

How are my fellow New Englanders dealing with the 85 million consecutive days of rain and the condition of their pens/runs? My pens are a disaster. I hate seeing the birds in mud - no breaks in weather is allowing any drying. I threw tons of shavings down over the weekend but they're already...
Whomever had the fantastic idea of notifying members by email when they get a PM, kudos to you!!!
I've been thinking it would be great to have that feature for months and am thrilled you guys did it.
Many thanks.
My light brahma just laid her 2nd egg. First was kind of normal sized and a little disappointing. Now the 2nd!!! Holy cow! It was the size of a turkey egg!
How soon after they start laying can I put her with my light brahma roo for some future chicks?
I have a handsome Black Copper Maran rooster (not crowing yet but trying) who is in need of a new home. He's playing 2nd fiddle to another Black Copper roo who is a bit more assertive and I thought someone would surely want him.
Please PM if interested.

I had an unfortunate incident occur where 12 of my most prized birds were victims to a two legged predator. I lost all of my gorgeous silkies that I hatched from Flufnstuff, my gorgeous araucana roo and hen, my salmon faverolle hen and my whole flock of gorgeous light brahmas. So in an effort...
I unfortunately came home from vacation today to find all of my light brahmas, bearded silkies and rumpless araucans to be the victims of some royally malicious jerk and they are all gone now. I'm so upset. I've spent a lot of time, money and emotion putting together quality birds w/ the hopes...
My son and I are looking from two Jersey Wooly bunnies (not for Easter gifts) but am having difficulty in finding a local breeder. Is anyone aware of a Jersey Wooly breeder in the MA/NH/CT/RI area?
I'd love to keep my pet purchase within the BYC family and their friends as opposed to a pet...
Have any of you ever dabbled into hydroponics?
I'd be curious to hear your experiences. My husband and I visited a store that specializes in organic fertilizers and pesticides and hydroponics yesterday and we're considering dabbling a bit in it. But would love to hear from others who may...
I had several different eggs from different breeds hatching today while I was at work. Unfortunately one of the chicks hatched horribly deformed. Her body was fine but the head looked like it was half squashed with horrible crossbeak and only one eye. The eye that was missing was on the...
I have a handsome young blue slate tom who needs an equally nice looking hen. I've had horrible hatches with the eggs I've bought on egg bid so am now going the route of just flat out buying the hen.
HELP!
I was candling my eggs in the laundry room and I accidentally left an egg mixed in with the miss matched socks for a day and a half. I found it this morning. And yes, its a fertile, developing egg.
Did I just kill the embryo? The room is a constant upper 60's. Its a buttercup so its...
I have three guineas, two hens and one male. I would sell all three together or separate if you only want one or two. Please PM me if interested.
They're a pretty pied lavender and all three hatched last summer - should start laying in May.

So I took my eggs off the egg turner for their hatch and went to unlug it and put it away. Unfortunately that is when I noticed that it was already unplugged (I don't know for how long). What are the odds of a good hatch when something like this happens?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
