I need help naming my farm

So after increasing my flock with quality birds, my husband and I are going all the way w/ the farm. We're buying a small herd of alpacas as well. So here's the issue. We're having trouble with a name for the farm. We live at the top of a hill on a small road with no really good landscape...

Too much rain in New England and muddy pens!

How are my fellow New Englanders dealing with the 85 million consecutive days of rain and the condition of their pens/runs? My pens are a disaster. I hate seeing the birds in mud - no breaks in weather is allowing any drying. I threw tons of shavings down over the weekend but they're already...

    Monster EGG!

My light brahma just laid her 2nd egg. First was kind of normal sized and a little disappointing. Now the 2nd!!! Holy cow! It was the size of a turkey egg! How soon after they start laying can I put her with my light brahma roo for some future chicks?

Is there a such thing as too many chicks?!

I had an unfortunate incident occur where 12 of my most prized birds were victims to a two legged predator. I lost all of my gorgeous silkies that I hatched from Flufnstuff, my gorgeous araucana roo and hen, my salmon faverolle hen and my whole flock of gorgeous light brahmas. So in an effort...

WTB - Bearded Silkie Eggs - MA

I unfortunately came home from vacation today to find all of my light brahmas, bearded silkies and rumpless araucans to be the victims of some royally malicious jerk and they are all gone now. Hydroponics

Have any of you ever dabbled into hydroponics? I'd be curious to hear your experiences. My husband and I visited a store that specializes in organic fertilizers and pesticides and hydroponics yesterday and we're considering dabbling a bit in it. But would love to hear from others who may...

    Poor deformed chick hatched today

I had several different eggs from different breeds hatching today while I was at work. Unfortunately one of the chicks hatched horribly deformed. Her body was fine but the head looked like it was half squashed with horrible crossbeak and only one eye. The eye that was missing was on the...

An egg got left out of the incubator by accident!!!!!

I was candling my eggs in the laundry room and I accidentally left an egg mixed in with the miss matched socks for a day and a half. I found it this morning. And yes, its a fertile, developing egg. Did I just kill the embryo? The room is a constant upper 60's. Its a buttercup so its...

    Someone unplugged my egg turner!

So I took my eggs off the egg turner for their hatch and went to unlug it and put it away. Unfortunately that is when I noticed that it was already unplugged (I don't know for how long). What are the odds of a good hatch when something like this happens? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
